class BaseWebDriver[source]#

Bases: object

Abstract Base Class for all Webdriver subtypes.

ABC’s allow custom implementations of Webdriver to be registered so that isinstance type checks will succeed.

class WebDriver(command_executor='http://127.0.0.1:4444', keep_alive=True, file_detector=None, options=None, locator_converter=None, web_element_cls=None, client_config=None)[source]#

Bases: BaseWebDriver

Control a browser by sending commands to a remote WebDriver server.

This class expects the remote server to be running the WebDriver wire protocol as defined at https://www.selenium.dev/documentation/legacy/json_wire_protocol/.

Attributes:#

session_id - String ID of the browser session started and controlled by this WebDriver. capabilities - Dictionary of effective capabilities of this browser session as returned

command_executor : str or remote_connection.RemoteConnection object used to execute commands. error_handler - errorhandler.ErrorHandler object used to handle errors.

Create a new driver instance that issues commands using the WebDriver protocol.

param command_executor:

Either a string representing the URL of the remote server or a custom remote_connection.RemoteConnection object. Defaults to ‘http://127.0.0.1:4444’.

param keep_alive:

(Deprecated) Whether to configure remote_connection.RemoteConnection to use HTTP keep-alive. Defaults to True.

param file_detector:

Pass a custom file detector object during instantiation. If None, the default LocalFileDetector() will be used.

param options:

Instance of a driver options.Options class.

param locator_converter:

Custom locator converter to use. Defaults to None.

param web_element_cls:

Custom class to use for web elements. Defaults to WebElement.

param client_config:

Custom client configuration to use. Defaults to None.

file_detector_context(file_detector_class, *args, **kwargs)[source]#

Override the current file detector temporarily within a limited context.

Ensures the original file detector is set after exiting the context.

Parameters:
  • file_detector_class – Class of the desired file detector. If the class is different from the current file_detector, then the class is instantiated with args and kwargs and used as a file detector during the duration of the context manager.

  • *args – Optional arguments that get passed to the file detector class during instantiation.

  • **kwargs – Keyword arguments, passed the same way as args.

Creates a new session with the desired capabilities.

Parameters:

capabilities (dict) – Either a flat capabilities dict (from a single options object) or an already-formed W3C {"capabilities": {...}} object (produced by create_matches when a list of options is supplied).

create_web_element(element_id)[source]#

Creates a web element with the specified element_id.

Parameters:

element_id (str)

execute_cdp_cmd(cmd, cmd_args)[source]#

Execute Chrome Devtools Protocol command and get returned result.

The command and command args should follow chrome devtools protocol domains/commands:
Parameters:
  • cmd (str) – Command name.

  • cmd_args (dict) – Command args. Empty dict {} if there is no command args.

Returns:

A dict, empty dict {} if there is no result to return. To getResponseBody: {‘base64Encoded’: False, ‘body’: ‘response body string’}

execute(driver_command, params=None)[source]#

Sends a command to be executed by a command.CommandExecutor.

Parameters:
  • driver_command (str | Generator[dict[str, Any], Any, Any]) – The name of the command to execute as a string. Can also be a BiDi protocol command generator.

  • params (dict[str, Any] | None) – A dictionary of named parameters to send with the command. Ignored when driver_command is a BiDi generator.

Returns:

The command’s JSON response loaded into a dictionary object.

get(url)[source]#

Navigate the browser to the specified URL.

The method does not return until the page is fully loaded (i.e. the onload event has fired) in the current window or tab.

Parameters:

url (str) – The URL to be opened by the browser. Must include the protocol (e.g., http://, https://).

Store a JavaScript script by a unique hashable ID for later execution.

Synchronously Executes JavaScript in the current window/frame.

  • script (str) – The javascript to execute.

Asynchronously Executes JavaScript in the current window/frame.

Takes PDF of the current page.

The driver makes a best effort to return a PDF based on the provided parameters.

implicitly_wait(time_to_wait)[source]#

Set a sticky implicit timeout for element location and command completion.

This method sets a timeout that applies to all element location strategies for the duration of the session. It only needs to be called once per session. To set the timeout for asynchronous script execution, see set_script_timeout.

time_to_wait (float) – Amount of time to wait (in seconds).

Set the timeout for asynchronous script execution.

This timeout specifies how long a script can run during an execute_async_script call before throwing an error.

Returns the drivers current capabilities being used.

get_screenshot_as_file(filename)[source]#

Save a screenshot of the current window to a PNG image file.

Returns:

False if there is any IOError, else returns True. Use full paths in your filename.

Parameters:

filename – The full path you wish to save your screenshot to. This should end with a .png extension.

Adds a virtual authenticator with the given options.

Injects a credential into the authenticator.

Retrieves the downloadable files as a list of file names.

download_file(file_name, target_directory)[source]#

Download a file with the specified file name to the target directory.

Parameters:

  • target_directory (str) – The path to the directory to save the downloaded file.

Deletes all downloadable files.

fire_session_event(event_type, payload=None)[source]#

Fire a custom session event to the remote server event bus.

This allows test code to trigger server-side utilities that subscribe to the event bus.

Parameters:
  • event_type (str) – The type of event (e.g., “test:failed”, “log:collect”, “marker:add”).

  • payload (dict | None) – Optional data to include with the event.

Returns:

A dictionary containing the response data including success status, event type, and timestamp.

Raises:

Returns the FedCM dialog object for interaction.

  • timeout – How long to wait for the dialog.

  • poll_frequency – How frequently to poll.
