Named in honour of Charles V. Guidotti (19 September 1935, Somerville, Massachusetts, USA - 19 May 2005, Boston, Massachusetts, USA), professor at the University of California, Davis (1962–1969), the University of Wisconsin–Madison (1969–1981), and the University of Maine (1981–2005), for his many contributions to phyllosilicate mineralogy. He also made important contributions to the petrologic studies of metamorphic rocks in the northern Appalachian Mountains of Maine.
