Both. It's not that they cannot control their actions, it's just that the mechanism that regulates our behaviour becomes so tolerant that it acts as a inefficient filter.

This is insane, 10-100 nucleotides per second, translating 10 amino acids per second? A protein is created in 1 minute, per cell. The flagellum propels a bacterial cell to move 10x faster that a mammalian cell, I wonder how fast T. gondii moves with the glideosome. L.
