Summary
- AMD is rumored to launch the RX 9060 XT in May to rival Nvidia's RTX 5060.
- Leaks suggest different memory configurations for the new card.
- Gigabyte filings hint at an RX 9060 XT release soon, likely at Computex.
AMD's recently-released RX 9070 XT was a smash success, but we haven't heard much from Team Red since then. Nvidia is pushing down into lower-end GPUs with releases like the RTX 5060 Ti, but it looks like AMD is eyeing May to bring out its budget RDNA 4 offerings. According to a new rumor, AMD is set to launch its RX 9060 XT in May. If true, that means we'll likely see the card show up as part of AMD's Computex plans.
AMD's RX 9060 XT is rumored to release in May
It'll go head-to-head with Nvidia's RTX 5060
The rumor about the RX 9060 XT's release date stems from the Chiphell forums, which is a common spot for speculation and leaks concerning upcoming GPU releases. This particular rumor was spotted by @harukaze5719 on X. User @AnhPhuH followed up the note, claiming that AMD would announce the RX 9060 XT at Computex and release the card into the wild two weeks later. That would make sense. Given that Computex is a little over a month away, it's hard to imagine AMD will announce a new GPU ahead of the year's biggest PC trade show.
Although AMD has been silent about RDNA 4 cards except for the RX 9070 XT and RX 9070, various leaks have confirmed critical details about the upcoming RX 9060 XT. For starters, leakers strongly suggest the card will come in two different memory configurations, one with 8GB and another with 16GB. This is something AMD did in the previous generation with the RX 7600 and RX 7600 XT, and it's a strategy Nvidia is employing now with the RTX 5060 Ti. If AMD runs back the same playbook as it did in the previous generation, you can expect the RX 9060 XT to come with identical specs short of memory capacity across the two models.
This detail came from board partner listings for the RX 9060 XT, suggesting the launch is soon. Just a week ago, Gigabyte filed two entries with the Korean National Radio Research Agency (RRA), revealing two versions of the RX 9060 XT. These regulatory filings generally happen a month or two before a GPU properly launches, which lines up with the rumored timeline of AMD releasing the RX 9060 XT at Computex.
It shouldn't be long until we learn more. Computex kicks off on May 20, and AMD should have a presence at the show. The company hasn't announced a keynote presentation yet, but it will likely hold some sort of event considering Nvidia and Qualcomm are both scheduled to deliver keynotes at the show.
