It’s nice that after several weird years on the hosting front, award-show producers have finally figured out what works. Namely, Nikki Glaser and Conan O’Brien work. The Oscars confirmed today that O’Brien will host the upcoming 99th Academy Awards for the third consecutive time on March 14, 2027. He’ll become the first person to host three years in a row since Billy Crystal hosted four in a row from 1990 to ’94. “Conan has created remarkable energy around ‘The Oscars,’” president of Disney Television Group Craig Erwich said in a statement. “His singular comedic voice makes Hollywood’s biggest night one of the most entertaining celebrations of the year. We’re proud to welcome him back and look forward to what he and the producing team deliver next.”
With O’Brien coming back, the 2027 awards season is already looking a lot like the 2026 awards season. Glaser, who has hosted the past two Golden Globes, will be hosting for a third time in a row as well.
In addition to O’Brien’s return, the Oscars are bringing back live-television-event producers Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan, who will be on their fourth consecutive year, and Jeff Ross and Mike Sweeney as producers. All this solidity comes in anticipation of a massive change. Namely, the 101st Oscar ceremony, which will leave ABC and, for the first time, air on YouTube of all places. Then there are a lot more questions to be asked. Will O’Brien still host? Will Timothée Chalamet even want a YouTube Oscar? Will Diane Warren still be nominated and lose? (Maybe, yes, yes.)
