When an asteroid threatens to collide with Earth, NASA honcho Dan Truman (Billy Bob Thornton) determines the only way to stop it is to drill into its surface and detonate a nuclear bomb. This leads him to renowned driller Harry S. Stamper (Bruce Willis), who agrees to helm the dangerous space mission provided he can bring along his own hotshot crew. Among them is the cocksure A.J. (Ben Affleck), who Harry thinks isn't good enough for his daughter (Liv Tyler), until the mission proves otherwise.

Armageddon is slam-bang sensory overkill. It's loud. It's heavy-handed. It's melodramatic. It's an explosion of baroque excess that splats on the screen and bludgeons the audience into a collective migraine. It's the best American movie of the year.

A fun disaster premise buried under an exhausting amount of sexism, fatphobic humor, inappropriate sexual jokes, corny dialogue, stereotypical characters, and over-the-top macho energy. Even the action rarely feels genuinely exciting or tense, and most of the humor and emotional beats didn’t work for me. There are a couple of touching moments toward the end, but nowhere near enough to redeem the experience.
