B-Folk: Music inspired by No-Budget Films

After a LONG bout of writers block...well, lack of time to work on music to be more truthful...I've been writing a song every two weeks, and hopefully will be bumping that up to once a week soon.

Inspired by the amazing podcast No Budget Nightmares and my love of low-budget films, I've discovered that I have a knack for writing respectful, honest and sometimes sweet homage songs for movies that most people would reject as ugly:

• A love song to (or from) a corpse

• A letter from children to their teacher to taught them karate

• An upbeat song about meeting and then being eaten by cannibals

• A dark song from the perspective of a cat in a boardinghouse beset by murder

I've been trying to capture the basic plot or characters, the themes, and always bring in a bit of a tongue in cheek nod to the cheap and 'B' nature of the film, but my main goal is to honour the movies, not mock them.

Wanna check 'em out?  They're on Soundcloud.  I'd love to hear what people think about them.

The next song should be out next weekend, and then I hope to start doing back issues for previous episodes.

"Ask Timber" Episode One
Hey all!

I just finished putting the first episode of 'Ask Timber' together! In it, Timber the talking dog (from the 'Futurecamp' series) answers questions asked by campers and furs. In the first episode, Timber introduces herself!

Does she like to play ball?
Does she fly through time and space?
Does she drink too much vodka?

Only way to find out is to watch! If you like it, please please click 'Thumbs Up' and share it around...the pay off to working on these kinds of things is knowing that people get a chance to see them if they're funny or entertaining enough! Comment too...and if you'd like to ask Timber a question, there are instructions at the end. Also...stay to the end...there's an awesome 'Production Company' promo piece afterwards!

Futurecamp! - Episode One of Feral's new webseries is online!!
Heya all!

Most furs probably know Camp Feral as a crazy furry summer camp run each year! Well, in the off season we like to keep people entertained...and since all of us are crazy and broken, we do it through screwed up video series'!!

In 2010, we made 'Feral! the 13th,' an homage to Jason Voorhees and his classic slasher series. In 2011, 'It Came From Camp Feral!' spoofed b-movies. This year...we're going all out...

...we're making a retro-futuristic sitcom from the 1960s!!!

Check it out...the first episode of 'Futurecamp!' is online. In it you'll see Pawnee (our adorable mascot), most of Feral! staff with their shirts off, and Crono with a sledgehammer...all with a classic sitcom laugh track!

...it's...really stupid

Please tell us what you think, give us a thumbs up on YouTube if you like it, and share it with friends if you love it! We <3 you all and hope you enjoy! *cue applause*

Life...zany!
Interning...trying to make it into a job!

Trying to get back into gymming and eating right...

...writing a blog...

...working on Feral!...

...spending a lot of time sitting at home staring at walls.

Sorry I haven't been updating here very often. Work actually has me on Facebook, Twitter, and many other sites so it's much easier to just update there. I'll try to pop back now and again if something interesting happens but, honestly, nothing has, so you aren't missing much ;)

Love y'all!

Kyell Gold currently #1 at the Shorty Awards! VOTE!!
Heya guys! I'm pushing a campaign to all my furry friends on Twitter to support one of our most talented authors! Kyell Gold is currently #1 at the Shorty Awards in the author category - he's beating fictional author Richard Castle, visionary Neil Gaiman, and even hyper-successful JK Rowling!

Help keep the furs on top! I don't get excited about awards very often but this is the first time in probably a decade where the thought of a furry leading the pack is just too awesome!

If you're on Twitter, click this link and follow instructions to vote for Kyell Gold! He is definitely a phenomena in the furry fandom and deserves our support!

And just to show how cool this is...

Blog a Day??
Wordpress has challenged its bloggers to post a blog every day. I'm gonna try to do it! I think I'll try to update here as well, but I guess this is more of a 'personal' journal where my blog is more my...blog...?

Click here to see my blog, Under the Pink, where I write about music, entertainment, or whatever's on my mind!

If you like it please subscribe, or spread it around, or comment :) Makes me feel special! I particularly like my last two entries: one is on the podcast that ate my life, the other showcases three of the messed up songs that made me 'me' ;)

As for life stuff, I'm busy at work! Sadly it's an unpaid internship, but I'm learning a lot! This week alone I'm running a contest for one of our artists, helping build the new Filemaker Pro database (which I introduced to the company after five years of MS Excel spreadsheetery!), and am getting ready to promote an artist's new video!

I start gymming again January 15th, and hope to get a vlog off the ground as well!

I'll try to remember this exists ;) Whee?!?

New Year!
It's the New Year!

Goals for the New Year:

Personal:

- A JOB!!!
- Buff Up
- Record music!

I'd also like to get some other projects off the ground and running well...I'd like to get Drupal under my fingers so I can help more with the new Feral! site, I kinda want to learn more about how to format a nice Wiki page, and want to get Logic and the Roodio in order so I can do more interesting stuff with my music.

Ummm...otherwise I need to get out more...which kind of relies on the job thing...yah ;)

My blog, My internship, My G20ing!
Quick update! GO!

- I have a new blog tied to my new mini-time-wasting Twitter word association game. If you wanna read my ridiculous comments to people's 'associations' head to twordassociation.wordpress.com and if you wanna join in the fun just follow me @Potoroo

- I'm interning at Universal Music right now in the Digital Marketing team for Universal Island Def Jam. I have been enjoying working on websites, twitter accounts, facebook pages, fan mails and have had a chance to do some fun stuff including a Taio Cruz appearance on Much, a Hayley Sales Video Shoot and the recent Drake autograph signing in Toronto...even gots me a 'To Roo' autograph from Drizzy!

- Got G20ed today! Me and Yennix were interrogated by two cops just after dropping Growler off at work at Adelaide and University. Note: I did not run a red light, speed, or break any laws. I apparently was male, 18-50, and suspicious. They asked my weight, my phone number, and seemed to want to know a lot about me before running warrant and arrest reports. THANK YOU, MR. HARPER! Bringing chaos to the city of Toronto was a great decision, and for SO CHEAP! ;)

Anywhoo, that's the Roo update...otherwise...go to Feral...eat your vegetables...dag yo.

Condition: Furry!
So, I've been looking at the year that just passed and have been thinking "Whoosh, that was a crazy year!" And then I look to the next three months and think "Damn! Internship coming up, not to mention Feral! at the end of August!" And I always KNEW Condition: Furry was coming up in like just under four months...but it didn't do that awesome 'click' moment for me until today...WAIT! I'm GOING to Condition...and it's coming up!! :)

So yah, I just wanted to remind people that I'll be at Condition, an awesome Canadian furry con that I've been excited about for a good year now. It's in London, Ontario and happens August 6th to 8th. So...like...I never get to go to cons and just party and have fun. And I'm doing it for this one. So if you wanna go to a con and party and hang with me before I go insane with Feral work and stuff...this is your ONE opportunity this year ;)

www.conditionfurry.ca

Go and register NOW so they know you're coming and can be ready for you ;) They have lots of cool ideas for the con, so getting in early and registering can only mean good things for you :)

Be there or be CRUSHED BY THE RED MENACE!!

I curse you, cough!
Why is it that every time I start getting back into a productive routine that includes healthy eating and a workout...I get sick? I quit smoking, hardly drink anymore, have been eating better, and have been working out again...and in the last three months since i quit smoking and started all this stuff I've been healthy maybe a total of two weeks. It's CRAZY!

Roo on Stage and Mobile LJ!
The show last Thursday went great! There are some vids online for those who wanna see how things looked, easily embedded here!

Expect more shows soonish!

So, I wanna use LJ again...but holy crap, the LJ app sucks, and now the format it comes up for mobile on my iPhone is craptastic.

Anyone know of any apps that might, say, let me READ friends journals and reply, cause the official LJ app certainly doesn't ;)

The Roosish Update, late March edition!
March has been crazy! Started off with insane business plans, presentations, websitery, exams, internship interviews...

...since then I've watched all of the Big Bang Theory, cleaned the house twice over, and watched a LOT of Feral footage from 2004 and 2005 ;)

Some funtime notes:

- Got an internship at Universal! May also have a part time internship with an event management group planning a big show in Toronto in July!
- Editing lots of mini Feral vids for our YouTube channel, hoping to have one out each Monday and Friday
- Playing a show at Bread and Circus on April 1st...first Toronto show since 1996, first show with Ryan of my old band since then too!
- Set to release my first studio track since 2005 on April 1st as well, which I should post to my Bandcamp not long afterwards
- Ryan and I are thinking of recording a new Spatulas album...first since 1995!

So yah...crazy goings on! :)
