20 & Boring [15 Jul 2011|09:06pm]
This temporary, unpredicted life excursion to Christmas, FL is lookin strange. I am pent up with some kind of exasperating energy that forces me to expend it. There’s no real other option, no way out of it, almost every afternoon. Have I ODed on politics? Is that possible? Will I find out through rational thought? Probably not.

At a gay bar with Steph, Sammy, and Ben. Ben’s got on the tightest black chords from Urban Outfitters ever; cocks bulging from the crotch and everything. Damn boy, nice ass! How can I not grap onto some part of that?

So where is my life going? In the beginning I imagined reading intensely and creating vast curriculum. And here I am at a gay bar, jamming through a fuzz pedal and telecaster, riding around downtown on a cruiser, contemplating androgyny as always and just generally reverting to usual practices.

This dream I can’t access right now…..

This heart that spills out onto the amplifier and I am not wholly in control. Of it.

Every night, new friends pass by and it conditions the mood. The porch tiles soak in the light we never use. There’s a strange haunting vibe in btw spaces of speech, and spaces of air that sizzle btw our eardrums. We tend to forget these things don’t actually exist. Rather, they only exist in terms of temporary, impermanent purpose. Competing absolutes condition our sense(s). We dream of better.

John Maus, We Must Become the Pitiless Censors of Ourselves [10 Jul 2011|10:05pm]
John Maus first gained notice while collaborating and playing with fellow Cal Arts classmate Ariel Pink more than 10 years ago. Though both have since developed cultish followings by releasing distinctive takes on murky lo-fi, Maus has steeped his music in new wave signifiers, an association furthered by his deep, commanding voice. Whether he's evoking Joy Division's Ian Curtis or Bauhaus' Peter Murphy, Maus opts to abstract the genre, inserting noise into unexpected places and walking the line between sincerity and surreality.

From the beginning, he's been an artist fascinated by the parameters, paradoxes, and possibilities of pop. Earlier this year, Maus took a walk through New York's Central Park Zoo with a journalist from Self-Titled. "I didn't realize that the music I was making was especially weird," he says in the piece. "Honestly, I thought I was making Top 40 kind of stuff. It wasn't until people kept telling me so that I realized my work was thought of as something 'other' than that." If you're at all familiar with the Minnesota native's swampy retro-futurist synth-pop, you may understand why he might place emphasis on the word "other." One experience with his body of solo work (or brave live performances) makes clear that his could be categorized as "outsider" art, but it's difficult to say that without also seriously considering why. He makes thought-provoking music that's disguised as something else.

We Must Become the Pitiless Censors of Ourselves, his latest full-length, is the most vibrant and toothsome expression of Maus' pursuits yet. He keeps his vocals awash in gothic reverb and echo-driven effects, blurring the lines between what he's saying and emoting. Sometimes, as on "Cop Killer", a Jan Hammer-indebted number on which Maus sings over an iced bed of keys, the results are outlandish and oddly funny at the same time, in the way that certain scenes in David Lynch films can leap from chilling to comically exaggerated. ("Cop killer, let's kill the cops tonight/ Cop Killer, kill every cop in sight," he sings.) And then there's "Matter of Fact" immediately thereafter, a song whose staccato, orc-like chorus line is "Pussy is not a matter of fact." They're not the kind of earworms you want to find yourself singing aloud in public, but it might happen anyway.

Sonically, Maus works a minimal, primitive setup: sputtering drum machines and an arsenal of 1980s-vintage synth presets undercut his lyrics just as much as those exaggerated, often grotesque vocal turns do. Sometimes, these songs seem to exist solely to pose questions: Top 40 cheese or ironic cool? High-brow or low-brow? Honesty or posturing? Artifice or reality? But what makes We Must Become his finest full-length yet is how fluidly he communicates it all by foregrounding melody. On "Keep Pushing On", Maus' monastic, cellar-level singing lends the song the feel of a Gregorian chant-led exercise tape. Though the vocals and basslines on arpeggiated fever dream "Quantum Leap" mirror Joy Division's to an almost cartoonish degree, you still get a good sense of Maus' persona in the music. There's a genuine, almost maniacal sense of glee in the way he seems to approach each turn.

When Maus takes the stage, he plays with notions of performance by singing over his own backing tracks. He pogos, he screams, he runs-in-place and pulls his hair and spits and sweats and clenches up until he looks like he might burst through his button-down and chinos. It's hard to look away. Now Maus has a full set of songs whose architecture is just as sophisticated and riveting in actuality as it is in theory. While earlier records have been riddled by experiments gone awry (see: "Rights for Gays" and "Tenebrae", from 2007's Love Is Real), they also didn't feature the revolving parts and aerodynamic hooks of "Believer", the closing track here and one that glitters from any angle. And although there's another vocalist at his side in the lullaby lilt of "Hey Moon" (songwriter Molly Nilsson, who wrote and performed the song on her 2008 album These Things Take Time), the way Maus sings to the heavens makes it sound as though he's no longer alone with his thoughts. Spend a lot of time with this record, and it's hard not to feel like you're right there with him.

Pisces Horoscope, Free Will Astrology

Any minute now, you might start learning at a faster rate than you have since 2000. Any day now, you will be less bored than you have been since 2006, and any week now you will be expressing more spontaneity than you have since early 2010. Any month now, Pisces, you will find yourself able to access more of your visionary intelligence than you have since maybe 2007. What does it all mean? You may not feel an amazing, spectacular, extraordinary degree of personal unity tomorrow, but you will soon begin building toward that happy state. By December, I bet you'll be enjoying an unprecedented amount of it.

So soon I will start applying to be a full time instructor all over the country!

I’ve got some bad ass bass lines in me tonight!

I jam with my drummer friend Joe about twice a week and it's becoming a lot tighter, a lot more aligned; this musical improvisation is working as intensely as ever.

When you don’t sit and be still, you lose creativity and insight from other aspects of your life. It bleed into other part of your life. It's necessary to drop the mind frequently.

When you do drugs, you lose and give up your intuition.

Words are my notes and notes are my words; the arrangement is what matters.

I feel as if Russian people come from a different place

Not place as in location, but place as in spirit, or state of mind.

One class of theories – principally as discussed, albeit in quite disparate ways, by Dunne (1927) and Saltmarsh (1938) – supposes that awareness is fundamentally trans-temporal, acquiring information beyond the "specious present" of information that is typically available for immediate awareness. While we are only ever consciously aware of some limited temporal range of information, these theories assert that, unconsciously, a much wider temporal range of information is sampled and used for the benefit of the organism.

Nate`s text--------------------

it can be her or another
to embarass with love and smother
have you sunk to my equal makeshift lover
can you want as much as me under the covers
we all have a twited box of desires underneath
the disgust mine creates makes me feel joy, like a child and a wreath
outdo me, add splendor to our cursed crease
become each others skin, let me lick the blood off your teeth
whisper in that sweet voice all night, cover my bed in towels
a swollen spirit settles with redemption as all is doused
this longing that took much from me and the things it brought out in me will soon
come back and make me agitated, and pout
but my zenith of a souls half life is at its singularity starting with mouths

drugs are gay, in a bad way [14 May 2011|11:44pm]
The altered state of consciousness that comes with being in an intoxicated state (drugs), is a false reality, where fact and fantasy become blurred.

People must choose what they love more - universal intelligence or pleasure. Drug use is pleasure-seeking, it is complete ego, even though it has the effect of reducing the ego. You will not be aligned with your natural rhythms and the rhythms of the Earth on drugs. You will not progress, you will remain unconscious. You go backwards in time and away from the present moment. You do not reach your deepest dreams and goals on drugs.

The black market for drugs is full of death and pain. Why add to it, why perpetuate it? It is another cycle of violence.

The mind is where most spiritual battles are fought, for the mind is a type of barrier between the spiritual and the natural realm.

Democratization [11 May 2011|05:31pm]
Diamond’s lecture concerns the global phenomenon of third wave democracy that has expanded dramatically in the world since 1974. He asks if any country can become a democracy and substantiates the question with a thorough overview of the growth in electoral democracies worldwide—what is called the third wave of democratization. By 1987, democratization had spread to all of Western Europe, much of Asia, and most of Latin American; Eastern Europe and Africa began to democratize, leaving only the Middle East out of the loop. Using quantitative analysis of the newly democratized states, Diamond’s tables present extensive findings on the characteristics of third wave states that serve to qualify his primary determination in the text: “the overwhelming bulk of states that have become democratic during the third wave have remained so, even in countries lacking virtually all of the supposed ‘conditions’ for democracy” (Diamond 2003; 3). His data repeatedly amasses findings that demonstrate the predominance of democracy in the world, nearly three-fifths of the world’s states are democracies, and overall only 14 of the 125 democracies existing since the third wave have regressed back to authoritarianism (although many of the listed states only democratized since 1990) (Diamond 2003; 6). Using annual freedom ratings and the always-empirically-popular public opinion survey, Diamond further supports his argument for democratization and democracy as a widely accepted universal value. Diamond uses findings to mandate the prospects for democracy in the Mid East, yet without considering the higher level of secularization in many of the non-Arab states with Muslim majorities that he cites. Overall, Diamond’s evidence overwhelmingly supports his theory, however, his statistics neglects to consider harder to quantify realities that the other texts explore: the longevity involved in true democratization for the new democracies, the foundational conditions for democratic culture in each state, the quality and levels of accountability in each new democracy, and the level of international democratic assistance received by what are mostly dependent democratizating states.

Eckstein’s essay uses a historical-comparative perspective to compare the first wave of democratization occurring in the late nineteenth century with the third wave of democratization of the late twentieth century. A key difference between the waves is the direction of political inclusion: the first wave of Anglo-American countries developed mature institutions of representative government before large scale political inclusion, or the extension of citizen-rights to all citizens. Arguing that the loss of traditional legitimacy of the old order occurred during socio-economic changes that coincided with the corruption and decay of an established order, a parallel can be made between this and the forces currently underlying the third wave of democratization. Eckstein’s basic argument for both waves essentially maintains that effective democratization requires far more than a process of formal inclusion and constitutional/institutional design; it requires the proper managing of democratic transition, which can take an indefinite amount of time and essentially hinges on the foundations for a democratic culture and the perception of regime-crisis (Eckstein 1996; 1). By transition-management, the author means a regime-crisis of the established authoritarian order must be present with the societal perception of its bankruptcy (Eckstein 1996; 8). Mutual reconciliation between the old, bankrupt order and the new one is needed if democratic transitions are to survive. He renders the debate between economic liberalization and democracy tenuous, as something that should develop gradually and adaptively over time. Another criterion above and beyond the formal-legalism perspective of democratization involves the gradual, incremental, and syncretic change needed for effective democratization: social transformation can only be accomplished successfully if the transition is gradual, sequential, and grafted to what already exists in society, without destroying and excluding old or marginalized parties (Eckstein 1996; 12).

Rakner’s brief on international democratic assistance summarizes the main challenges and recommendations for democratic assistance and processes in the developing world. She advocates self-generating democracy from within with the assistance of international donors, recommending that donors support political parties and the political nature of assistance; fashion the right institutions and reforms to the context and realities of recipient countries; counter executive dominance by strengthening instrastate accountability and continued progress and long-term commitment beyond the founding elections; reaching out and working with civil society across all levels (central, regional, local); and the need for donor alignment with a country’s priorities and needs to strengthen the effectiveness of the aid. Like Eckstein, Rakner further argues that the outcome of democracy promotion is difficult to assess due to the long-term nature of the effects, the multiple and varying internal and external influences, the interlinked democratic processes with social, economic, political and historical conditions, and the limited picture of reality that quantitative indictors provide (Rakner 2007).

Mainwaring’s introductory chapter presents a compare and contrast literature review of works regarding democratic accountability in Latin America and competing conceptions of accountability. Accountability, one of the key problems and barriers to democratic legitimacy in most of the region, is defined as the legalized authority of an actor to request answerability by way of imposing sanctions on public officials. Two kinds of accountability are then defined: electoral (vertical) accountability between elected public officials and voters and intrastate (horizontal) accountability between state agencies and public officials and bureaucracies (Mainwaring 2003; 8). Accountability, as a concept, additionally helps to explain the difference between third wave democracies and advanced industrial “polyarchies” (Mainwaring 2003; 6). He renders the debate between electoral and intrastate accountability to be mutually interactive and reinforcing rather than either/or. Lastly, Mainwaring discusses the state of intrastate accountability in Latin America and ways to repair the deficiencies in the mechanisms of oversight and corruption.

Suhrke’s article gives a context to the third wave of democratization with the example of Afghanistan. As a dependent, fledgling democracy Suhrke shows the missteps taken by the U.S., international donors, and international organizations that led to foreign dependence, political exclusion and an institutional design that lacked sovereignty and legitimacy (Suhrke 2007; 2). Critical decisions were openly made by the U.S. to back Karzai as interim president of the transitional government and the loya jirga confirmed the decision, a presidential rather than parliamentary system was chosen with considerable U.S. influence along with a Single Non-Transferable Vote (SNTV) election system that allowed for individual candidates to be chosen in multi-member districts (some of which were war criminals or associated with armed groups) and barred the established 60 registered political parties from representing constituents in parliament (Suhrke 2007). Furthermore, the legitimacy of the newly established democracy was further undermined due to the government’s dependence on foreign economic and military assistance which limited the parliament’s ability to make independent decisions (Suhrke 2007; 14).

Suhrke’s study gives a clear context to the difficulties inherent in democratic transitioning and nation-building. Rakner’s recommendations for effective democratic assistance demonstrate some of the limitations and faults committed by the international support and highlights where and how improvements could be made. It also speaks to the inflated prospects for democracy demonstrated in Diamond article, in that it insufficiently explains the discretion needed and contextual attention involved in democratization. The U.S.’s influence over Afghanistan’s democratization process effectively denied a voice to the old order and ethnic minorities in the political arena, at the interim stage, during the formulating of the constitution, and at the electoral level. “How to democratize at a proper pace, on a proper scale and in a sensible sequence” (Eckstein 1996; 17) seems to be one of the key questions aside from the most effective constitutional and electoral design for a given country.

Inauthentic labels [20 Apr 2011|11:18pm]
The Woman Identified Woman

by Radicalesbians (1970) This manifesto was originally published in Notes for the Third Year and challenged commonly held stereotypes about lesbians. by RADICALESBIANS (1970)

(Editors Note: This manifesto originally appeared in Notes from the Third Year, a collection of feminist writings that was very influential at the time.)

What is a lesbian? A lesbian is the rage of all women condensed to the point of explosion. She is the woman who, often beginning at an extremely early age, acts in accordance with her inner compulsion to be a more complete and freer human being than her society - perhaps then, but certainly later - cares to allow her. These needs and actions, over a period of years, bring her into painful conflict with people, situations, the accepted ways of thinking, feeling and behaving, until she is in a state of continual war with everything around her, and usually with her self. She may not be fully conscious of the political implications of what for her began as personal necessity, but on some level she has not been able to accept the limitations and oppression laid on her by the most basic role of her society--the female role. The turmoil she experiences tends to induce guilt proportional to the degree to which she feels she is not meeting social expectations, and/or eventually drives her to question and analyze what the rest of her society more or less accepts. She is forced to evolve her own life pattern, often living much of her life alone, learning usually much earlier than her "straight" (heterosexual) sisters about the essential aloneness of life (which the myth of marriage obscures) and about the reality of illusions. To the extent that she cannot expel the heavy socialization that goes with being female, she can never truly find peace with herself. For she is caught somewhere between accepting society's view of her - in which case she cannot accept herself - and coming to understand what this sexist society has done to her and why it is functional and necessary for it to do so. Those of us who work that through find ourselves on the other side of a tortuous journey through a night that may have been decades long. The perspective gained from that journey, the liberation of self, the inner peace, the real love of self and of all women, is something to be shared with all women - because we are all women.

It should first be understood that lesbianism, like male homosexuality, is a category of behavior possible only in a sexist society characterized by rigid sex roles and dominated by male supremacy. Those sex roles dehumanize women by defining us as a supportive/serving caste in relation to the master caste of men, and emotionally cripple men by demanding that they be alienated from their own bodies and emotions in order to perform their economic/political/military functions effectively. Homosexuality is a by-product of a particular way of setting up roles ( or approved patterns of behavior) on the basis of sex; as such it is an inauthentic ( not consonant with "reality") category. In a society in which men do not oppress women, and sexual expression is allowed to follow feelings, the categories of homosexuality and heterosexuality would disappear. ---- Bonobos rule!

But lesbianism is also different from male homosexuality, and serves a different function in the society. "Dyke" is a different kind of put-down from "faggot", although both imply you are not playing your socially assigned sex role. . . are not therefore a "real woman" or a "real man. " The grudging admiration felt for the tomboy, and the queasiness felt around a sissy boy point to the same thing: the contempt in which women-or those who play a female role-are held. And the investment in keeping women in that contemptuous role is very great. Lesbian is a word, the label, the condition that holds women in line. When a woman hears this word tossed her way, she knows she is stepping out of line. She knows that she has crossed the terrible boundary of her sex role. She recoils, she protests, she reshapes her actions to gain approval. Lesbian is a label invented by the Man to throw at any woman who dares to be his equal, who dares to challenge his prerogatives (including that of all women as part of the exchange medium among men), who dares to assert the primacy of her own needs. To have the label applied to people active in women's liberation is just the most recent instance of a long history; older women will recall that not so long ago, any woman who was successful, independent, not orienting her whole life about a man, would hear this word. For in this sexist society, for a woman to be independent means she can't be a woman - she must be a dyke. That in itself should tell us where women are at. It says as clearly as can be said: women and person are contradictory terms. For a lesbian is not considered a "real woman. " And yet, in popular thinking, there is really only one essential difference between a lesbian and other women: that of sexual orientation - which is to say, when you strip off all the packaging, you must finally realize that the essence of being a "woman" is to get fucked by men.

"Lesbian" is one of the sexual categories by which men have divided up humanity. While all women are dehumanized as sex objects, as the objects of men they are given certain compensations: identification with his power, his ego, his status, his protection (from other males), feeling like a "real woman, " finding social acceptance by adhering to her role, etc. Should a woman confront herself by confronting another woman, there are fewer rationalizations, fewer buffers by which to avoid the stark horror of her dehumanized condition. Herein we find the overriding fear of many women toward being used as a sexual object by a woman, which not only will bring her no male-connected compensations, but also will reveal the void which is woman's real situation. This dehumanization is expressed when a straight woman learns that a sister is a lesbian; she begins to relate to her lesbian sister as her potential sex object, laying a surrogate male role on the lesbian. This reveals her heterosexual conditioning to make herself into an object when sex is potentially involved in a relationship, and it denies the lesbian her full humanity. For women, especially those in the movement, to perceive their lesbian sisters through this male grid of role definitions is to accept this male cultural conditioning and to oppress their sisters much as they themselves have been oppressed by men. Are we going to continue the male classification system of defining all females in sexual relation to some other category of people? Affixing the label lesbian not only to a woman who aspires to be a person, but also to any situation of real love, real solidarity, real primacy among women, is a primary form of divisiveness among women: it is the condition which keeps women within the confines of the feminine role, and it is the debunking/scare term that keeps women from forming any primary attachments, groups, or associations among ourselves.

Watching Fitzcarraldo because electronic musician Legowelt wrote a song with it as the title. A opera-loving madman who is determined to drag a huge boat over land from one river system to another. He insisted the entire movie crew film in the depths of the South American jungle because he knew it would produce a certain indefinable quality within them. Something about place compels him to do this.

"Herzog has always been more fascinated by image than story, and here he sears his images into the film. He worked with indigenous Amazonian Indians, whose faces become one of the important elements of the work. An early scene shows Fitzcarraldo awakened from sleep to find his bed surrounded by children. There is a scene where Indians gaze impassively at the river, not even noticing Fitzcarraldo as he ranges up and down their line, peering wildly into their faces. There is another scene where he and his boat crew eat dinner while Indians crowd into the mess room and stare at them. And scenes simply of faces, watchful, judgmental, trying to divine what drives the man in the white suit."

Take a couple of deep, full, cleansing closed mouth breaths and begin to relax. Hold in the lower abdominal area. Hold in the navel area. Close the mouth, and breathe in and out making a sound like Darth Vader. This sound and the breath are made by slightly constricting the throat.

This breathing technique is very powerful. It generates heat, moves energy and as a point of focus, it trains the mind to pay attention and be present. The root lock practice increases the activity of the parasympathetic nervous system which can ease pain; lowers the breath rate, heart rate, and blood pressure; and stabilizes brain-wave activity. Root lock is an energy charging practice with great specific benefits:

hormonal balance, stimulating and regulating the nerves around the lower pelvic region, rebalances nervous activity in the body, significantly decrease stress and anxiety levels, decreases muscle tension, improves mood, decreases depression, increases endorphin levels, releases healthy chemicals such as nitric oxide and serotonin, balances the chakras, stimulates alpha brain waves, increases longevity, sends oxygen to the cells, anti-aging and much much more.

Practice this technique beginning with 3 minutes per day, once in the morning and then in the evening. Work your way up until you are able to do 20 minute sessions. This very simple mind body self-healing technique is easy to learn and do. It stimulates your brain and produces high levels of healing chemicals all throughout the body. It is beneficially on a physical, psychological and spiritual level. It can help to prevent or even reverse medical disorders. It also provides a very simple anti-aging benefit since it oxygenates the body’s 800 trillion cells.

1. So I meditated at the war memorial park/lake by Baldwin Park today, after I wrote some of my questions for my lecture. Steve lives right between the VA Building and a cemetary. There's a war memorial for Veterans who died in Pearl Harbor and another for Italian Americans who died in World War II at Lake Susannah. Kind of didn't want to meditate and look all weird but then I said DON'T GIVE A SHIT, like I always do. This little kid rode right by me and said "Nice meditation metaphor." I could have sworn he said metaphor. I let out a really sincere thank you when he said that, in the middle of trying to figure out if he said metaphor. Well, that's what I heard at least. How cool. So many coincidences happening lately. I was on high alert noticing them all for the last like week. Oh, my friend Margaret's pregnancy due date was Saturday, the same day Otto the cat at Ben's had another litter of kittens. The list goes on from there.... I hope there's a black and white one in the batch. Dr. Green is really nice, and I guess I'll learn more from him on his benevolent teaching techniques. He likes my syllabus - we talked about shapes, he uses spirals in his lectures! Hahahah. Steve is soooooo weird, he lives in an awesome place but it's by a cemetary and he has lots of Hitler decor around. Our decor style is very complimentary though. God, teaching is easy when you think in dualisms!!!! LOL. Funny I find myself living by a war memorial and the VA building while teaching an International Relations class. Apt.

Heart beats up love

back and out into space [25 Mar 2011|03:58am]
So beyond grateful that I have my own room. I have not had my own room since May 2010, nearly a year of roomlessness. I have my freedom! I moved in with a friend and I'm single! I have my mind back! It's back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My space too!!!!!!!

Yesterday and today were different. I went to a crystal bowl meditation, expecting to feel the bowlsounds vibrating in my body, getting to that level of awareness. But I didn't feel it. So I waited. I tripped out a bit and my body moved in super slow motion for a while, going any which direction it felt. Somewhat like being hypnotized. That's when pure experience graced me. I started getting the awareness I used to back in my hands. I felt the distinct movement of shapes pulsing and flowing through my hand. I went with it and played back with my mind, creating more and more shape feelings for myself. All the shapes I could think of I performed. They used this other bowl that made my headspin a bit, bodytrip a bit.

Today I went to a different meditation and it was more powerful. The first thing I noticed was my gaze softening and my eyes adjust to the light, letting more of the room darken and blur together, tapping into the good energy that was clearly within the room. The lights just dimmed when my perspective changed and great feelings rushed over me as this super nice guy spoke. It's like the light warmed up or something. Then I felt a lot more energy when we did both meditations. I played around with the shapes again, feeling my vibrations more and more throughout my arms and such. Toward the end I began to feel swirling sensations in my chest. Right now I cannot recall how to describe it, I don't have a proper way to justify it exactly. But I know I felt it and that's promising.

Did I mention I'm a professor? Well that's what they apparently call all instructors at Strayer but whatev, that's fine with me. I don't get why they do that.

As man goes into his own surface internal interstellar space he goes out into space.
To go deeper and deeper into oneself is to come into a larger and larger world.
Inner space is the vaster consciousness dimension within.

Many Uses [15 Mar 2011|02:46pm]
The Female Body has many uses. It's been used as a door-knocker, a bottle-opener, as a clock with a ticking belly, as something to hold up lampshades, as a nutcracker, just squeeze the brass legs together and out comes your nut. It bears torches, lifts victorious wreaths, grows copper wings and raises aloft a ring of neon stars; whole buildings rest on its marble heads.

It sells cars, beer, shaving lotion, cigarettes, hard liquor; it sells diet plans and diamonds, and desire in tiny crystal bottles. Is this the face that launched a thousand products? You bet it is, but don't get any funny big ideas, honey, that smile is a dime a dozen.

It does not merely sell, it is sold. Money flows into this country or that country, flies in, practically crawls in, suitful after suitful, lured by all those hairless pre-teen legs. Listen, you want to reduce the national debt, don't you? Aren't you patriotic? That's the spirit. That's my girl. -- from "The Female Body"

On the other hand, it could be argued that men don't have any bodies at all. Look at the magazines! Magazines for women have women's bodies on the covers, magazines for men have women's bodies on the covers. When men appear on the covers of magazines, it's magazines about money, or about world news. Invasions, rocket launches, political coups, interests rates, elections, medical breakthroughs. Reality. Not entertainment. Such magazines show only the heads, the unsmiling heads, the talking heads, the decision-making heads, and maybe a little glimpse, a coy flash of suit. How do we know there's a body, under all that discreet pinstriped tailoring? We don't, and maybe there isn't.

What does this lead us to suppose? That women are bodies with heads attached, and men are heads with bodies attached? Or not, depending.

You can have a body, though, if you're a rock star, an athlete, or a gay model. As I said, entertainment. Having a body is not altogether serious. -- from "Alien Territory"

I believe that gender is truly a play, that we are all dressed in "drag." Identity (most especially through dress) is always a changing cultural and historical construct. Since there can be trappings to being female, both through dress and behavior, I have wanted to play with different parts of gender, both to bring those qualities in balance personally and externally in culture.

Since I have some masculine facial qualities - I like to play with those and other qualities (dress) to enhance the androgynous character of my personality, although I embrace my femininity internally much more than any masculine qualities I possess. I have always felt the ascribed inferiority of being female and so it's compelled me to want to fuck with gender as much as possible!

This is how it all started for me, probably the opposite for your kind but of course, I do not want to be butch and see the power in androgyny as much more powerful....

french toast all over your genitals [25 Jan 2011|03:43am]
I spend a lot of time thinkin about:
The illusion of races and artificial polarity of gender

“He’s an interesting old bird” “Like a tall crane”

Hey look that shit up! Come on, you gotta be typing with your foot. Gotta be typing with your foot. On two computers, 45 degrees apart.

I want roman constitutionalism combined with Christian moral frameworks and sandwich that between salvation through applied technology encrusted with legal fetishism

How's Ben?
"Oh he's drinkin a lot of vodka, dancin on top of bars at gay clubs and runnin into cactuses"

Is he really Emmanuel Goldstein with nice hair? [20 Dec 2010|08:23pm]
Somebody tell me why on earth Assange would ever interview with the Today Show and why the Today Show would ever televise his threats to govt/banking institutions. Sounds like Western materialism is trying to assuage popular opinion's natural reaction to mass corruption. Starting to sound like PR.....

Why release cables to "selected media outlets" (not to mention interview with them) when you can just release them in full without using the mainstream media who inevitably/naturally inject spin/censor? That sounds a lot more objective to me.

Article with valid criticisms for Assange and Wikileaks

This was by far the best point:

As a champion of freedom of information and open government he might have been expected to fare somewhat better. But hasn’t he just succeeded in doing the very opposite? Assange said in the Time interview that ‘If their behavior is revealed to the public, they have one of two choices: one is to reform in such a way that they can be proud of their endeavors, and proud to display them to the public. Or the other is to lock down internally and to balkanize, and as a result, of course, cease to be as efficient as they were.’[9]

What does he mean by ‘less efficient’... internal lockdown and balkanization is probably the most efficient method of keeping information from the public – and is exactly what we are seeing in the aftermath of the latest releases. As a strategy to increase openness, it is achieving the opposite.

The best indication of who or what is behind this selectivity is the omissions – they are far more telling than anything in the cables. Which is the only country to come out of Wikileaks smelling like roses? Yes, Israel.

"Whether all the activists and supporters demonstrating outside courtrooms and various other localities around the world are victims of ‘sophisticated counterintelligence tactics designed to manipulate the unwitting’[11] is in some senses irrelevant. If they are demonstrating against the suppression of information, against governments lying to their citizens, against the persecution of whistleblowers, and against the abuse of judicial processes for political purposes they are making valid and justified demands, and laudable goals for Wikileaks.

If they are claiming that Julian Assange is an uncorrupted example of these that is quite another - possibly very erroneous - matter.

We would all do well to keep this distinction centre-table.

It would be far easier to fully support Julian Assange if he weren’t suppressing information himself, and was demanding openness from every government, not just those he doesn’t like. It would be not only easier, but essential, to give him our total support if it were clear that he was a genuine whistleblower, and not Israel’s stooge – or even a bit of both.
Unless and until the Tel Aviv cables are released, we will not know. Unless and until Wikileak’s funding sources are as open and transparent as we demand Governments to be, we will not know.

-----------------------
Truth tellers will always be co-opted by the powerful and thus rendered obsolete and corrupt..... It is simply not possible or allowable to have a real "Emmanuel Goldstein" in the free world. The "Free world" is a fucking farce. If you actually believe subversive people can exist in the mainstream media, you are only fooling yourself and your faith in your current "worldview".

Among Dreams [18 Nov 2010|02:46pm]
Ariel Pink

Among dreams, we're best friends
While in life we float apart
You fell asleep but you won't admit you love me
Though it's precisely in your dream
I'm livin' to love you
Oh, to be wide awake beside you

Please don't hurt me
Please don't watch me
Please believe me
Please don't judge me
Please don't hate me

The misuse of your best

Among dreams, we talk of they
While in life they talk of me
To you I'm a pathetic face
but you know it's the truth
cos in your dream I've known you
forever

now it's not my dream to remember

Please don't touch me
Please don't want me
Please be near me
Please don't scare me
Please don't leave me

Among dreams, I dream to be
You would have loved to love me
You'll never see that you won't admit you love me
Though it's precisely in your dreams
to love you
forever

no it's not my dream to remember
oh to be wide awake beside you
