Life as a work in progress

12th-Jun-2009 07:11 pm - Farewell LJ!
Mizzou
I guess all good things come to an end, and to tell the truth I don't even really think about this place anymore.

I won't delete this place for a little while, but I at least thought I'd let everyone know where they can find me online.

sinavar.deviantart.com

Yup. I'm over on Deviant Art now. Mostly because I'm trying to take my life in new directions, and DA gives me much better tools for stuff like that.
6th-Mar-2009 03:21 am - Movies and their faithfullness...
Xenogears
So I just got back from seeing the midnight showing of Watchmen, and while I definitely enjoyed the movie, I was mostly surprised by the fact that it's literally 98% faithful to the graphic novel.

The one change they made I almost felt was necessary because it actually almost made me boggle in disbelief when I read it in the graphic novel. Really if you watch the movie, you miss out on a little backstory and a side-story parable. That's it.

Which made me wonder about something. It was so faithful, I'm almost disappointed. I'd almost have liked it to have been a bit different simply so that I would have seen something new. I think I always wished that movies be like their book counterparts. I realize this is a little different because it was a graphic novel (aka comic book on steroids)and therefore you have so many actual visual elements that you can put in directly, but it was weird. Now I think I'd rather have something vastly different simply so that you can see something new.

It's a rather different take than I would have expected for me to take.

Well I've finally got the look and feel up for my website.

You can check out the look here.

I've had the domain name for quite some time now, but I'm just now getting to the point of actually putting up the look and feel. The name actually came from an old D&D character, but I like it for a domain name because it's pretty unique to remember.

Next I'm going to start adding copy to the site. First a general home page and about me (which shouldn't take long. Then I need to get the contact page up and running.

Then I'll begin on the copy for the two sections I have up there. Writing and Gaming.

In writing, I want to offer a bunch of encouragement and writing tips, plus things like writing exercises and things to get you started.

In the gaming, there will be a couple of sections. I've run a few role playing games in my day, and so I'm going to put up several articles that are general tips on organizing and running a game. I also want to provide things like painting resources for model games. I even intend to have a section on things like card games, and party games.

Once I get all the content up, I'd like to add a member's section that has things like writing discussion and the such. But that's pretty far off and I intend to flesh out the content a lot more before I even get to that point.
5th-Nov-2008 11:57 am - Michael Crichton
Sirius
So Michael Crichton just died.

This is a bit sad for me. I've read pretty much everything of his, and thing that always impressed me about his writing was just how well he would research a subject before he would write about it, and how he always tied the science very well to character and plot.

Rest well Michael.
30th-Oct-2008 02:00 pm - So... much... pain...
Mizzou
I'm in owie mode right now.
Shadow
So I'm doing NanoWrimo again. Yup. It will be the 4th time I've done it since I didn't do it last year. So far I'm 1 of 3, so I figure if I get one more win under my belt I'll actually be up to .500 on the career.

Wish me luck.
4th-Oct-2008 12:16 am - I am a twisted man...
Mizzou
So I saw a commercial for this when I was watching an old Spiderman cartoon and I immediately thought of this.
20th-Aug-2008 02:36 am - Happyness
Mizzou
And yes, I know that isn't how you spell happiness.

I was just thinking and I came to a realization. I am unbelievably happy in my life right now. About the only thing I really feel missing from it is a little security when it comes to the future, but that's more of a thing that will come and is slowly arriving ever since I did a lot of financial planning. All in all though, it just seems as if everything is currently going right.

Not much else I wanted to say. I guess I just wanted to say all is well in Andyland.
6th-Aug-2008 09:47 pm - Mass Effect
Mizzou
So I really think that Mass Effect is one of the best games I've ever played when it comes to a combination of both setting and story.

Not quite Xenogears, but where Xenogears kind of has a few fruity what the hell that doesn't fit in with the universe elements, Mass Effect has a very consistent hard SciFi feel.

Makes me happy.
5th-Aug-2008 11:35 am - Yeah... I'm a bachelor... so what.
Mizzou
I was looking at my grocery bill yesterday and I couldn't help but be amused by what was on it and how many stereotypes I just fulfilled.

8 frozen pizzas,
2 cans of spaghetti sauce
3 mass packs of ramen
Velveta cheese
Juice
Bailey's Mint Chocolate Liqueur
And a Big XII Football magazine
29th-Jul-2008 01:18 am - Too Human
Mizzou
So I just played the demo for Too Human. Damn I want to play this game.

I'm not so sure due to the fact that it's just a demo, but the presentation so far is awesome.
25th-Jul-2008 01:05 pm - Megadeth
Mizzou
For some reason I'm just now realizing how good Megadeth's Risk album is. I've listened to the individual songs a bit, and I realized I liked them a bit. For some reason there's just a... "how come I didn't realize these were from all the same album? And it's really good."

Edit: Okay, so you know how LJ googlemaps your location? Is it a bad thing that the first option for "Office of Contract Reading Doom" is a result of government contracts with the federal aviation so and so?
19th-Jul-2008 10:33 pm - Six Flags!
Mizzou
So today was the Six Flags-St. Louis day of my vacation. Ended up that only Adam and I could go as everyone else had things come up. Turned out to still be a lot of fun. It had been about fourteen years since I had gone, so I was pretty excited. I wanted to go even if everyone didn't because I've been trying to go for years. Every other time we've tried to organize it, something has come up. So I was going to go no matter what.

Got there at about noon. Left at about 8:00pm. It was loads of fun.

Then afterwards as a special treat we went to White Castle's. A very complete day.

Oh, and I've decided that I like Dark Knight better than Batman Begins.
19th-Jul-2008 01:13 am - The Dark Knight
Mizzou
Just got back from seeing Batman: The Dark Knight.

It was pure awesomeness.

All I'll say is that the end didn't have as uplifting of a message, and the character development of the first was better, but the second is quite possibly a better film overall. Still not sure which I liked better.
12th-Jul-2008 10:57 pm - Surprised...
Mizzou
A few years ago, I remember how hard it was to write 50,000 words in a month for the National Novel Writing Month. It seemed like an impossible task.

In the past week, I've written 30,860 words.

Go me.
12th-Jul-2008 12:11 pm - 40k for the Youngin's
Mizzou
So last night I got to play a little bit of Warhammer 40k again with some friends. It was a blast. Except for the fact that my Terminator army was dying like Imperial Guardsmen. (For those not familiar, this is like elephants dying from bug spray. It could happen, but it's not supposed to...)

Anyway, I'm here in Springfield with my friend Seth and his family. Seth was fortunate to win a $90 box of 40k stuff at the midnight party last night. Much fun was had by all.

Today I'm going to get some writing in while Seth and Chris play a game. I'm going to try to get 6000 words in today. All in all, it should be fun.

Also, I'm getting to play with my "nephew". For those that didn't know, I'm sort of an honorary uncle to Seth and Dena's son, Josh. Last time I saw him I got him a green stuffed frog. I was considering getting him something else, but decided I'd only get him something if I thought it was special.

Anyway, I'm going to go write and stuff.
11th-Jul-2008 07:09 am - Vacation!
Mizzou
So after today's stint of work I'll be on Vacation for a week.

I can't wait. Got to get a lot done at work today, so things are going to be busy!
9th-Jul-2008 10:58 pm(no subject)
Mizzou
So here I am posting again today. As I said, I'm trying to create new habits, and one of them is being more prolific in my writing. Which means taking the chance to write in places like LJ.

I'm going on vacation next week. Can't wait for it.

First I'm going to see one of my best friends for the weekend. He and his wife have a new son who six months old now. I'm going to do my part to make sure the boy grows up a proper nerd and geek. How soon is too soon for a kid to learn Warhammer 40k?

On Monday I'm heading to see my cousin and his fiance in Columbia. Travis is kind of crazy, kind of still well... twelve years old in the head. All in all, he's good people, and I'm going to enjoy spending time with him.

Thursday I'm heading to St. Louis. The 'Figment' and I are going to hit the release of "The Dark Night", play some NCAA Football on my 360, go to six flags and wrap things up on Sunday with a Foo Fighters concert.

Somewhere in all that I intend to do a bit of writing since all of the people I'm visiting have jobs and stuff. Write during the day, play at night and sleep 'em if ya got 'em!
8th-Jul-2008 11:00 am - Holy F-in Do!
Mizzou
It seems like things are coming together with work. Do I dare hope? Holy crap!
Mizzou
They say it takes six weeks to truly get into or break a habit. Well who knows if I'll be able to accomplish this, but I'm going to take some time to try to get into that habit.

So step one. Try to post something everyday. Don't know what it's going to be, but I'm going to try to do it. Of course, considering how many people will actually read these entries is minuscule. I don't even know if anyone besides shetiger will actually notice them. Perhaps I'll make a future step to be to make friends.
