John DiMaggio (Creator)

OUTRAGEOUS! John DiMaggio has his own page now!?

Well, yes. Yes he does. With Black Jack and hookers!

In fact, forget the creator page!

John William DiMaggio (born September 4, 1968 in North Plainfield, New Jersey) is in basically every single current Western cartoon imaginable — even more than his Futurama co-star Billy West. You can easily spot his work by his Large Ham nature.

And as the photo proves, he is not a pseudonym of Peter Cullen. He's also not to be confused with the famous baseball player Joe DiMaggio. Seriously.

Has a Twitter account.

Some of his roles include:

Trope my shiny, metal ass:

  • Accidental Misnaming: He once referred to Hayao Miyazaki as "Hayao Mizayaki" in an interview discussing his experiences working on the English dub of Princess Mononoke.
  • Acting for Two:
    • Once in a while, he voices enough roles on Futurama to have a conversation with himself (although not as often as Billy West, David Herman, or Maurice LaMarche). Literally the case when Bender talks to a chained up Jake the Dog and tells him to shut up.
    • Also in Final Fantasy X, where he voices both the characters Wakka and Kimahri. Kimahri talks so little though that they never have a conversation as such (at one point Wakka tells him "That's enough!" and Kimahri just shakes his head and walks away).
    • Given how many characters he voices in the Ben 10 franchise, it was inevitable that he'd end up doing this at least once.
    • Also Dr. Drakken and Motor Ed in Kim Possible, who are revealed to be cousins.
  • Big Fun: Not only has he played plenty of these, but he's also one in real life.
  • The Big Guy: Pretty much his signature. At 6'3 1/2" or 1.92 m, he's also pretty physically imposing in real life.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: Another specialty of his.
  • General Ripper: His raspy voice combined with high pitched enthusiasm has led to him being Typecast vocally as one of these.
  • Ink-Suit Actor:
    • The writers of Kim Possible created the character of "Motor Ed" so that John could "be himself." Similarly, he also looks somewhat like Marcus Fenix.
    • Word of God says they made Human Bender on the "Anthology of Interest II" episode of Futurama exactly like John - both in looks and personality.
  • Large Ham: It's one of his fortes.
  • Playing Against Type: As the Joker, the Hammer of Sauron, and Golgo 13.
  • Pretty Fly for a White Guy: Often described as "the blackest white guy in VA," his uncanny ability to do an African-American accent (one that doesn't just sound like a white guy doing a racist voice) has earned him a handful of roles as black characters. In interviews, he'll sometimes reenact a heavily-circulated tape of Barry White trying and failing to record a radio spot, and it's spot on. He's also a very skilled beat-boxer.
  • Typecasting: He's played a talking dog sidekick three times now.

A fourth-wall breaking happens after Mung, Chowder, and Schnitzel run out of money in "Shopping Spree". Mung points out that they don't have any money left for the animation budget in-universe... at which point the show cuts to the live-action voice actors of the four main characters—Dwight Schultz, Nicky Jones, Tara Strong, and John DiMaggio—sitting in the recording studio lamenting the lack of cash. They then decide to hold a car wash to raise the funds they need, and after a minute of live-action footage of the quartet spraying down various vehicles, Schultz/Mung announces that they've made enough to get the animation back; the show becomes a cartoon again.
