Local officials have confirmed progress on the construction of Phuket’s second waste incinerator, a project designed to ease mounting waste management challenges and reduce environmental impacts.
Mayor Supachok La-ongpetch of Phuket City Municipality, accompanied by senior administrators and relevant agencies, inspected the Integrated Waste Management Center this week to review the installation of imported machinery and assess construction progress.
The project has faced delays due to disruptions in material and equipment shipments linked to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. As a result, the completion timeline has been extended, with operations now expected to begin in June 2027.
To ensure readiness, EA Waste Management Phuket Co., Ltd. plans to gradually feed waste into the bunker system between April and June 2027, ahead of the official launch.
The new facility will feature a closed incineration system, designed to minimize odors and reduce environmental and community impacts. Once operational, it will process up to 500 tons of waste per day, significantly expanding Phuket’s waste disposal capacity. This addition is expected to relieve pressure on the existing incinerator, which has struggled with excess waste, and strengthen long-term waste management efficiency across the province.
