About campaign diagnostics

Campaign diagnostics is available for all campaign types.

Campaign diagnostics helps you identify and fix issues that impact campaign performance. It checks 90+ signals across your campaign’s core components to provide insights on where there are issues and guidance for how to fix them.

To get started, navigate to “Campaigns” on the main menu to view your campaign's overview or insights page.

Benefits of campaign diagnostics

  • Monitor current serving status: Check your campaign’s recent serving health and identify any issues at a glance in the campaign diagnostics panel. Your diagnostics will show “happy” messaging to help you confirm that there are no serving issues.
  • Diagnose issues: Campaign diagnostics analyzes a wide range of signals to highlight and provide insights on any issues that may limit or block your campaign’s ability to serve.
  • Apply recommendations to fix serving issues: In just a few steps, you can resolve each serving issue that campaign diagnostics highlights.
  • Boost efficiency: Campaign diagnostics can help you spend less time on manual troubleshooting tasks, which means more time to strategize for your business.

When to use campaign diagnostics

Use campaign diagnostics when you need a summary of your recent serving and campaign health. Campaign diagnostics checks your campaign’s performance over the past week to give you a summary of its health. Specifically, it highlights whether your campaign:

  • Served any impressions in the past week
  • Generated any goal-aligned actions in the past week
  • Was able to spend a majority of its average set daily budget in the past week

If your campaign is serving well based on these criteria and no issues were found, campaign diagnostics will show a “happy state” indicating no action needs to be taken at this time.

Note: Campaign diagnostics may have limited historical data if the campaign hasn't run long enough. In these cases, the diagnostics will indicate this and primarily display issues unrelated to performance signals.

Where to check for campaign diagnostics

Campaign diagnostics is available for all campaign types. Campaign diagnostics runs in the background and is available by navigating to “Campaigns” on the main menu.

  • Diagnostic details are displayed when viewing the Overview from the section menu, when a single campaign is selected, and without selecting a specific ad group.

  • They are also shown when selecting Insights from the section menu. If a specific campaign is selected, insights and diagnostics are displayed for that campaign.

Metrics and Diagnostic Areas

For enabled campaigns, diagnostics check over 90 metrics to provide signals about campaign health via configuration areas that have potential issues. You can focus on a specific category by clicking on the category name to filter out other diagnostic items. The following areas are displayed when applicable to your campaign type:

  • Account: Any account-level issues that may impact the campaign, such as account suspensions and billing issues.
  • Ads: Issues related to your campaign’s assets, ad groups and keywords, or audiences.
  • Audiences: Audience settings or disapprovals that create issues for the campaign.
  • Bidding & budget: Issues related to campaign bid and budget targets—surfaces misconfigured bidding strategy, bid target limitations, or budget limitations.
  • Business Data: When the campaign has business data utilized, issues related to health and population of data that feeds ads, assets and targeting are detailed.
  • Goals: Issues related to account or campaign-level goals and conversion tracking setup.
  • Products: If the campaign utilizes product information from the Merchant Center, issues with the account or feed are detailed.
  • Signals: If the campaign utilizes Audience Signal information, diagnostic issues concerning the data and eligibility are shown.
You can select the “View campaign diagnostics” link at the bottom of the panel, or you can select any of the “View details” links in the issues to bring up a dialog with details and actions that can be taken to resolve your campaign issues.
