Bloody, gory, disturbing, disgustingly fun, and at times just plain disgusting. Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival is one hell of a ride, and I mean that in the best possible way.

After watching the very first trailer, I made the decision to stay away from absolutely everything surrounding this game. No reviews, no gameplay videos, no spoilers, nothing. I wanted to experience it completely blind, without knowing what horrors were waiting for me. And I'm glad I did.

From the moment I started playing, I was pulled into a twisted, nightmarish world that felt right at home in the Hellraiser universe. The cutscenes were fantastic, the visuals were impressive, and the gunplay felt surprisingly satisfying. Everything came together to create an experience that was as entertaining as it was downright revolting. And believe me, this game doesn't shy away from making you uncomfortable.

The sound design, in particular, deserves some serious praise. Every unsettling noise, every disturbing background sound, and every moment of tension added to the atmosphere. Playing with headphones made the experience even more intense.

Now, that doesn't mean everything was perfect.

The sequences where you're being chased by Chatterer were easily some of the most annoyingly stressful moments in the entire game. I understand what the developers were going for, and they certainly succeeded in making those encounters tense, but there were times when the frustration outweighed the fear. Those sections occasionally felt more irritating than enjoyable.

My other complaint is the length. It took me approximately 9.8 hours to finish the game on Normal difficulty. For a $40 game, that's a little disappointing. I would've loved a few more hours to explore this horrifying world. That's not to say the experience wasn't worth it, but the relatively short runtime is definitely something worth considering.

Still, what the game delivers during those nearly ten hours is an incredibly memorable horror experience. It's brutal, grotesque, atmospheric, and completely unapologetic about what it wants to be. It doesn't try to soften the Hellraiser universe or make its horrors easier to stomach, and I respect that.

If you're a fan of Hellraiser, extreme horror, or games that aren't afraid to push the boundaries of good taste, this one is absolutely worth checking out.

Pain has never been so much fun.
