Really stressed.

I don't like leaving things to the last minute. I also fear the airport currency conversion will rip me off, but I'm kind of in a situation.

I doubt the bank will have the amount of yen I want to convert to.

I also haven't booked my ticket going home. I was waiting for a better price, but the cheapest day is the last day of my insurance so it might be a sign.

Although, my friend who's coming to Korea and travelling with me to Malaysia then Japan, I don't think she's booked her tickets. I just know she's leaving Korea sometime. I don't want to leave her high and dry~ I don't want to leave on the 2nd, and be like.. yeah so.. uhm you have fun in Japan by yourself for two days. Also don't want to reserve something beyond what I need it for (hotel). Although it's reserved I would like to fix the dates.

As well, I also don't know if said friend is leaving on Sept 1 to go to China, or even if she's heard back from her friend.

Not to rant about friends, I know they're uber busy, but I'd like to secure my stuff. I don't like things hanging.

Also, I have been so stressed I can't sleep well at night, usually I can fall asleep easily at 10pm-1am depending, but it's been 2am or 3am and sometimes I can't sleep. I wake up in the night, constantly, unable to sleep. Stress is killing me.

I had a lot of stuff to do this Tuesday and Wednesday so that could be it.. but even now.. I'm not finished mailing. I have to box up stuff to take to the post office tommorrow. Not finished with Christine's socks, but I guess I'm going to have to mail them, or hope I can get 20 bucks worth by next Tuesday? D:

AHHHHHHH everything is just too much atm. EXPLODES.

Question about a song....

Hello!

I was wondering if anyone knew the title to this song? ^^ I think... I found it when searching Heather Alexander songs, or Mercedes Lackey songs, but I'm sure it was mislabeled, because I haven't found any lyrics that are similar to the story I remember by either songwriter.

It was a story about a plain girl who was an elder sister to two younger beautiful ones. They had many suitors and were anxious to marry, but the father had a rule in place that the eldest sister must marry before the next, and so on. The plain girl was really kind, sweet, and had a beautiful voice but she was always overlooked for her more beautiful sisters. Anyways, one day the sisters devised a plan to get rid of the girl, and sent her off into the cold or snow (I'm not completely sure.. why, I've forgotten). So off she went... never doubting her sisters. Then when it was dark and cold, and she'd lost her way, or realized she might die, or something along those lines, she started singing, or maybe she was singing before, not sure. Anyway, a blind elven prince (? not sure if he was a prince, but I do know he was blind and elven) found her, fell in love with her because her beautiful voice, and they lived together happily in the woods.

I'm sorry for my mediocre, vague recollection of what happened in the song... Partially because of my vagueness I've had trouble locating the song title (ie. no lyrics to search by). Can anyone help? It'd be much appreciated.

Sorry for x-posting.

I was given Goku from Saiyuki by ajj7sunhawk

1. Do you like this character?
Yes, although, at first, I didn't care for him too much. Like all the Saiyuki characters, after a while, I warmed up to him after learning of his background. I deeply can relate to some of his feelings in his past, at least in my darkest times I can.

2. What name/names do you call this character?
Son Goku or Goku. Although Gojyo has an assorted bunch of names like Monkey, Asshole, etc.

3. What image-color do you associate with this character?
Yellow. Could be his eyes. Could be the fact that Son sounds like sun too. ><

4. What image-song do you associate with this character?
"C is for Cookie" because... I'm sure ajj7sunhawk linked me this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HHjuX-OdlM

5. What blood-type do you think this character is?
Definitely, without a doubt, B. Sorry B-people, but Goku completely fits the stereotype.

6. Of all of the titles that this character appears in, which characters do you like to put this character with?
None. I don't yaoi him. I don't really enjoy putting people together who aren't canon, and no, sorry I don't see Sanzo/Goku or Hakkai/Gojyo for that matter. Goku... I like Goku to be with girls he's seen to show interest in in the series (or atleast the manga). He always has these beautiful innocent crushes that go so horribly wrong. (Even though those aren't canon either I suppose because he doesn't really... say he likes her... but Gojyo has often commented things like "You have good taste Monkey, she would have grown up to be beautiful!")

7. What would you want to say to this character?
I don't really have anything to say. I'd probably use food to bribe him to tell me horribly embarrassing or silly stories about the other three though.... of course... far away from said three lest they interrupt my bribing fun and drag him off. Hehehe....

8. Which do you want to do with this character: Shake hands, hug or kiss?
Maybe a kiss on the cheek, definitely lots of hugs. I think he's totally huggable.

Post a comment here if you want me to give you a character to write about :)

I'm back!

I'm posting this good news here because I know all the important people who need to know this will get this.. (coughcoughBanchancough).

My power is back... after yet another blown fuse temporarily over washing my counter. I don't seem to understand Korean architecture, or perhaps it's carpentry in this case.

Windows are built without any insulation so, any heating of the room soon goes to waste because.. cool air blows in. Of course, in summer, the air conditioner goes to waste too, and besides, it's somehow unhealthy for you. I never heard or believed aircon sickness until I got really sick in August from turning on the aircon. I've heard that it's because it gets hotter here, and so the drastic change fucks with you, but I'm not sure. I don't believe it's any hotter.... I think just the quality of air that's produced isn't good, because I think it's hooked up to the tap water, which we're all not supposed to drink.

That and mine always leaks and creates piles of mould on my wall. Gross! My floor too makes a stinky mould smell when turned on so, I figure, that might've been the reason I got sick then too.

Okay, but back to the problem I was talking about... there's a 2 burner hot plate kind of thing attached above the washer, and on the counter about 2 feet away from the sink. Below it is the electronics for it, and possibly the washer too, not sure. Where do you think the carpenter placed the caulking to seal off water damage? Around the hot plate so the water when washing the sink/dishes/counter wouldn't get in and blow a fuse? Nooooo! That would actually be logical! He put the caulking inbetween the counter and the wall, to seal off the gap he created when he mismeasured the location of where the counter was supposed to go.

Fine, I'm not really berating him on that, it's probably helpful that food and stuff doesn't get jammed in there... but WHY THE HELL DID HE CAULK THAT PLACE AND NOT THE PLACE WHERE THE ELECTRONICS ARE?! HELLO!? A bottle of the stuff is maybe 5 bucks at most, right? What was he trying to save some money?

Oh another thing, they wallpapered the shit out of this apartment and put it over wood panelling that was on the corners of some jutting out areas. GOOD JOB.

Sorry, just a bit bitter after this happening a second time. I always take extreme care, but sometimes, it just happens and you can't control it. Really, it's shoddy craftmanship that didn't prevent this from happening. Thankfully, I'm not here more than a year so it won't happen more than 2x. I let it dry out, and managed to get the breaker to turn back on again. YAY fridge is finally working again hurrah!

My boss informed me if it broke and didn't come on again I would have to pay for a repairman to fix it. MUHA. Fuck that. I'll pay for the 5 dollars of caulking for someone to fucking do it right and stop this from happening again.

And so is my computer. Huzzah! However, I learned.... when it sparked (my computer, which is a different problem, because the power supply was busted, dangling, dust on the sodering/wires, and I was turning it on and off)... it burnt out the power cable :D So all I have to do is replace the cable and I'M BACK IN BUSINESS. >:D

Note to self: Before you connect up again tonight, wipe down the desk.

(Random: Using laptop with desktop screen to type this).

ranting

So cold. So sick.

Going to Cafe Nikolia's tonight with Judy, Amanda and possibly one of Amanda's friends. Going to see if I can meet that Irish guy again on second break and invite him too (he doesn't have a cellphone) but we'll see. I felt so bad last night. I woke up and couldn't get back to sleep. I didn't have energy to do anything either, really, not even read or use the computer... just sit there.

Logged into WoW and some punk in the guild changed my officer's note to "Alt of Rai or ather" or something like badly spelt. Grrr. I'm totally alt of Raeilla, or Rae, don't spell my name wrong. When I brought it up to everyone's attention that I'm Rae/Raeilla not Rai one of the officer's were snotty and said "So where's Rae anyway?"

Sorry, you inept noob, but I pulled her. I don't feel like I need to explain myself to everyone where I put my 80. I told the GM and that was enough. You tools can't run Naxx without wiping on the first boss 90 times, and since I don't really require anything from other dungeons (other than achievements for a tailoring pattern.. but that's not going to happen any time soon)... why should I roll with you? You're only going to ask me repeatedly to run you through crap, and sorry but my lock isn't effective that way. If I was a tank, or well-armored class of DPS (mail or plate) MAYBE, but not as a lock, it's annoying. Plus, it's annoying running people through stuff. I will do it in exchange for being helped, or perhaps if it's RFC, but typically not.

Too many people have asked for a run then bailed during it. What a waste of time. I'd much rather be playing my new paladin tyvm.

Sorry for sounding bitter, but if I'm in a guild not built for raiding, people take it as if I'm on my alt, I owe them to come help them (quest, or raid, or dungeon)... because OMFG we're guildies. I owe you nothing. I am not friends with you, and I haven't talked to you before today.. cmon. If I'm in a raiding guild people have more people than necessary to raid typically. I just don't feel like raiding atm, and I don't feel like using my 80. I don't have a lot of time and energy and I'm actually getting enjoyment from levelling my pally.. so... who cares where Raeilla went? >> Ungrateful gits. I have my tank in your guild. Your GM is the same spec as my lock........ WHY DO YOU NEED ME? Geez.

On a more pleasant note... we made banana shakes in class today. Loved them. One of my more favorite things I miss about Canada. Also miss banana bread >>

Cancer.... the new go to disease?

Alright, all parents are guilty of it. They use scare tactics (and sometimes guilt) to get you into eating the foods they want you to eat. From when you were a little kid you're told the truth about foods (although, a bit exaggerated at times). About how some things will make you fat, or will make you sick if you eat too much of it. Science and the news does it too. In an attempt to make everyone more healthy, they analyze foods individually to find out what's good and what's bad. I remember growing up that eggs were the hot debate. What part of the egg was good and what part was bad? One week it was the yolk, the next week it was the other part. Another week, we shouldn't eat them at all, they're entirely bad.

Then the next big thing I remember is carbs being the bad thing. Can't eat carbs. They make you retain fat. Ooo, fat. I knew a ton of people who cut out carbs completely, or almost completely and lost a lot of weight. Props to them, I tried it for two days and lost the will to eat, personally. Carbs isn't just bread, y'know, it's those sugary marinades and sauces that go on meat, and it's some fruits and vegetables too. I ended up feeling so faint and weak, I thought if it continued I might end up in the hospital so I stopped. I think carbs are important, especially grain bread carbs, and carbs in fruit, if all taken in moderation.

It seems science can't agree on a sole thing which is unhealthy for you, and I have to put in my two cents here. I agree with a nutritionist they interviewed recently for a report about red meat, you can't just choose one food and analyze it separately. I think it has to be taken in as a whole, as part of a person's diet, and on an individual basis. We can usually benefit from some intake of it, and too much of anything is bad. An example of this is, all those leafy green vegetables and high oxilate foods you're parents have been shoving down your throat (and recent studies have been encouraging you to eat) actually cause kidney stones. Too much calcium in your diet (especially from calcium supplements) can cause them too!

However, we're not talking about cholesterol or fat anymore, we're talking about something more scarier - cancer. It seems everyone who wants to scare someone out of eating or doing something, they'll tell them that it'll cause cancer. I heard from a friend that we can't drink beer in Korea/China because it contains formaldehyde and we'll get cancer. (I don't know about China, but the South Korean beer rumours are unfounded, atleast the two most popular ones.. Cass and Hite. Koreans take their food care/cleanliness very seriously.)

Someone else said, don't burn meat, it gives you cancer. Another person said, don't eat pizza, it causes cancer. Now studies are saying eating too much processed foods and red meat causes cancer. They mentioned about how eating turkey, chicken and fish was a lot better for you, but that's it. No mention of pork... once again (aside from bacon which falls into the processed category) it slips under the radar. I think pork is a really dangerous meat to eat. The animal eats anything, there's no quality control going on.. from it's brain to it's mouth... and it has the highest fat content of all the meat. It isn't categorized as red meat, but it isn't chicken or fish either. A lot of Koreans firmly believe eating pork is good for you.

They're big rice eaters (WATCH OUT! CARBS!) too, so whatever they're doing, they seem to be keeping in shape (the vast majority I've seen).. and I'm dropping weight like there's no tommorrow.

I'm just kind of irked that cancer is the new big thing. Maybe it's not new, but I have to sit back and wonder who funded these studies and if there isn't some ulterior motivation behind the results? Perhaps it's really for the best interest of the people. Perhaps, like the article said, we're eating in such a way, we're causing the global warming, and so people have banded together to try and make people scared of eating these meats.... Maybe it does really cause cancer. Who knows. I just think the only scarier thing other than cancer is perhaps AIDs, and I don't think they can explain a STD getting through cooked meat..., so cancer is what they chose.

Don't get me wrong, I think too much of anything is bad. I've learned that with eating healthy and my kidney stones. Tea causes them too, btw, haha, lovely. I really do question studies or people who claim doing XYZ causes cancer. I think it's really just the new scare tactic to try and convince people not to do something anymore, because there are really people out there ignorant and selfish enough not to care about anyone or anything but themselves and their own well being.

Who knows really what's going on, but I think it's good to always question everything rather than believe it 100% of what you hear. Every news station is always funded by someone, or something... and every story... you're only ever hearing one side to it.

Games I play with elementary...

5-10 mins on marking/reviewing homework
25-30 on one page from the book.
5 minutes giving out stars/assigning homework from workbook.

These are games I play with elementary that need no prep. It helps kids to make the connection on the lesson rather than lecturing at them and finding out the next day they didn't understand.

Today's chapter had 8 words and the verbs that we use with them, usually in the chapter we review what the words are, how to use them in a positive and negative sentence, and how to use them in a questions form.

Like, take a shower, or get dressed, eat breakfast.

First the class repeats after me for reading the words. They can do it in a silly or loud voice if they want, I don't penalize anyone unless they're screaming in a high-pitch migraine enducing tone. (It makes it more fun if you can say it how you want).

Then we match the pictures on the page with the words. One person answers "What is he doing?" then the next person answers, what number is "getting dressed?" (I do it this way because there's sometimes not enough words for the amount of students I have.. and it's apocolyptic meltdown if someone doesn't get a turn... even if they get a turn in the next activity, it's not good enough. My class wants a turn for every round of questions.)

Depending on the day of the week we're using to cover this... we could either play charades... What is s/he doing? She's getting dressed! The child picks one of the words from the list and acts it out. Make sure all the words get acted out.

Another option is: match the words with their correct verbs! (although I don't say that, I just tell them to match them... I'm not in control of their grammatical terminology so I'm never exactly sure of what they know...)

I'll have a list on the left that never changes of "get" and "take" and "eat"
and then I'll mix up the other list with "dressed" "a shower" and "breakfast". I think it's important that a goes with shower so they know shower needs an article, rather than associating it with the verb take.

Children then come to the board and draw lines to match. I never allow a child to do the last, obvious one (like #5 out of 5).. I always erase and reset the list and start again.

Another one I recently begun was "What's wrong?"

You choose the basic sentences the book is trying to teach students and you write one of them with an obvious error (or two-three, depending on the student's strength.. they can also be hard or easy)....

What's you doing?

Students come to the board and correct or rewrite the sentence. You can give them prompts like "How many is 'he'? or How many are 'they'?" and they answer you... 1 or 2 and more... and then you say.. so what do we use with 1? Do we use 'are' with one? Or 'is'?

Of course, the tricky one is you where 'you' is often thought of as singular but can be both.. but regardless we use 'are' with it always.

Maybe it's the motivation of stars but kids love it, and often will demand they get another turn with more mistakes to fix. They also love coming to the board because it gives them a chance to play teacher.

These are things I came up with on the fly. Sure, they're not my original idea I'm sure, but I'm proud that I was able to think of them on the spot when we had 20 minutes left of class :) I thought I'd also share for those people on my flist who teach who might find themselves sometimes in a position where they have finished their lesson but still have 10 minutes, but didn't prep for anything... (sometimes it happens, lessons end quicker, or take longer, depending on certain situations). I'm sure the games can be modified to fit other subjects as well :D

Please also share any other games you can think of, teachers or not, so I might further improve my teaching skills :D

Things I've Learned in Korea

I have to say the first time I was told I was being selfish and inconsiderate for not coming to work because I was too sick.... I was shocked. I was absolutely floored and a bit offended. I still think what she said was rude and uncalled for... it didn't show what I feel is cultural sensitivity. I guess that might be using the word wrong, but having worked with foreigners for X amount of years I still believe they should be prepared to tell people that they are unallowed to call in sick, or miss days, if that is how they feel. They can't believe that every other country works under the same work ethics as they do. If you couldn't prepare for it, and it happened, then I could nicely explain the situation and what was expected before it happened again.

However, living here, I've become brainwashed. I feel guilty when I'm sick, even when I come to work. I felt so nervous and anxious, I was having panic attacks because I was in the hospital. I was terrified of being lectured when I got out (and sure enough I did).

It's been a learning experience working in Korea, aside from the usual learning things that most foreigners grasp... like eating with metal chopsticks... and not to pour your own drink at the dinner table. I've learnt that being sick isn't an excuse and I have responsibilities to uphold.

I can't just take a day off (unless my life is at risk) and recover. Other people need and depend on me, as well as I have bills to pay. It's been an eye-opening experience to realize this. I must continue and suffer on and wait until the weekend to rest up. I think I've become stronger physically from doing this. I can't explain to you how I've changed, but... when someone tells you if you miss another day you'll be fired, forced to pack up your belongings and pay your airfare home, as well as the 2,000 dollars it took to take you here, you really can't afford to miss a day. Even if you're throwing up, you come in, barf all over the place and let them decide to send you home.

In the same respects, I have to say, I've never more felt like a race horse anywhere else I've worked. Not even Canada Post where they were just rude and treated you like a mule. There was a solid union who protected your job. Here, people are nice to your face but it sometimes becomes clear what the motivation of others are. My boss came to visit me, but then, saying nothing, waited around for the doctor just to confirm what day I would be able to go back. I understand my hospital was too far for people to visit (I find hospital visits awkward with family and friends to begin with...), and I was okay with that. Oh, did I mention in Korea, there is no privacy? Anyone who knows your name and speaks Korean can phone up and retrieve information on you, your surgery, anything.

I will never think, or say, to someone who misses a day that they're being irresponsible or selfish, I don't believe that's true in the least, but I have found an inner source of strength I never thought I had. I am positive if I return to Canada, unless I am forced to goto surgery, or am dying, I will never miss a day of work, if I manage to find a job that is.

I don't know what to do....

Should I.......

1) Sign on another year?

a) No one seems to be able to come in August, after not being able to make it in December, thus kinda making my trip to Japan kinda crappy.

b) There's an economical depression in US/Canada so it's really hard to get a job (although Matt offered he could get me one on the TTC possibly driving buses.. yuck).

c) I didn't get into Masters and I don't know if I have the energy to apply for it again this year.

d) I can continue to earn money while going home it might be difficult.

2) Come home?

a) I can goto Japan for longer than one week.

b) I can explore Korea freely.

c) I can relax about any medical issues I might have without fear of aggravating my boss, or having to have surgery.

d) I probably won't be as sick as I've been here in Korea.

e) I'll be able to avoid the war if it does blow up post-August.

f) The vacation days for this year are rather shitty.

Any advice/opinions would be appreciated. I think I might be better off coming home for a bit and then resigning later after my medical situation gets sorted out. Or even, signing in Japan, not sure.

I feel so much stress about this decision I'm getting chest pains and feeling dizzy. Ugh.

I just got told by my boss...

The parents and him are concerned about my health and the quality of the teaching for all the students when I miss time. I think this stems from missing one week, for surgery, but they don't realize what I was going through to opt in for surgery. I literally couldn't eat or drink anything for 2-3 days. I thought waiting another 5 for it to pass was not an option. I couldn't stomach my antibiotic for my sinus infection which means that would only get worse as well. I decided that rather then bustling through the pain as I did last time, I would be too weak by the end of the week if I didn't get it done. I had NO idea it would have been a week off. I thought for sure, I'd be out by Wednesday night and back on my feet Thursday. The doctor however, delayed the operation so late Wednesday that I wasn't able to leave until Thursday... and when I did, I felt so poorly.. that I wasn't able to goto work until Monday.

He asked me to eat healthier and look after myself more. To teach them actively and loudly (and I do, this semester we play a lot more games).

He told me he thought I was the best teacher, if I don't get sick.

I really loved hearing that but at the same time, I'm kind of upset. My kidney stones I think have nothing to do with what I'm eating (other than a testiment to that I'm eating healthy)... it's really been a freak of nature thing to have had 3 within the past 8 months.

I ended up crying and apologizing, because I've honestly felt so bad since I was in the hospital. I feel like I've been brainwashed into being Korean. In Canada, normally, I'd be like whatever, I'm sick and that's that.. but here, it's like a horror situation and you shouldn't be so selfish to miss time off.

There was a woman who missed ten days for stress, and often went to doctor's appointments. She's been here longer and she's Korean soooo... I wonder if she was talked to.

I think honestly it's twenty-six years or so of kidney stones and my kidney is just getting rid of them now.. unfortunately. I want to see a doctor to find out why I'm having so many... but... I want to wait until I go home.

If I have to get my kidney cut open and all the stones removed, so be it. Anything to stop this. I won't do that here though.

I woke up right after surgery, hacking up brown foam. I freaked out because, white.. yes... yellow maybe.. an infection, but what the hell--- BROWN?! I was so upset, no one would tell me why. They just got a heated blanket and took me to another room.

I kept throwing up brown stuff, and then blood. I wondered, what did they do to me. I showed the nurse, and asked if this was ok? And she said yes. I asked, why brown, why red? She said, because I had been given an oxygen tube. Maybe I'd never had one before in my numerous surgeries... so I have to check if that's normal. My tongue and neck were swollen too. I think they were just rough.

Random LoLs.

I asked them to review compound words, telling that that some words are made up of two words put together.

Pop + corn = popcorn.

I asked them to separate a list of words that they didn't know the meaning to, and they were able to do so successfully because they recognized the smaller words. Except one word: briefcase.

When they came to that word, they separated it as:

Brie + fcase

They didn't know the word brief, or case, but they knew the name of the cheese brie, so they separated it accordingly.

Aww, they're all little gourmets!!

Unfortunately, they were unable to separate cheesecloth, failing to recognize either, claiming one was a prefix ><

And a random lol for good measure:

They had to learn songs to dance to for the Open House, except, one of the songs for one of the classes sung Peter Pan, and one of the verses was grammatically wrong.

Where's Wendy? Where's Wendy?

She's all gooone!

----------

Which, I'm not sure if everyone knows the rule, but it sounds like Wendy was eaten doesn't it? Compared to "She's gone" as in she's disappeared/left... All before it implies that there were more than one of her... maybe in pieces... Like where's the hamburger? It's all gone. Where are the vegetables? They're all gone. All is used when there's many of something, not one. I explained this to my kinder kids and they had a good laugh, thankfully.

Peter Pan, the adult version... where Wendy gets dismembered and taken away.... D: sung by kids! hahaha (No, that's not what they were trying to do... the song was just wrong XD)

I know I asked this from various people who were open for requests, but I've lost posts, and I can't figure out how to make LJ email me when someone replies >_> I don't have a lot of fanart on me cuz I moved, and wiped my computer before I did (and no scanner)... adurrh, so I can't really show what I have to offer right this second (posting from work too), but if someone would be willing to have faith in me, I assure you it's not horrible? D: I have a tablet~ ^^

I would like to request Mulan/China from any artist willing to try. Doesn't matter your style, or skill. Mulan as in the Chinese story Mulan not Disney :3 Though if you wish to spork my request with humour, you can XD

In exchange I will draw you something (clean, please ^^, kisses = ok), coloured or uncoloured, whatever we agree on. :)

If you'd rather me do something like sign something or post somewhere in exchange or whatever, I am willing to do that :3

Sorry for the randomness~~ and my lack of art to prove my worthiness of asking such an exchange :3

Despite my awareness of how upset South Koreans are about Hetalia, I still enjoy reading it.

I haven't seen enough of South Korean-kun to understand what caused the upset, but I do understand to some extent the history behind the bad blood between Japan and South Korea. Only hearing one side of the story, I'm kinda irked at the Japanese government (which is a lot because I used to sing high praises of everything Japanese). I hope to talk to some knowledgable Japanese people someday and get their side of the story. I don't think any side is unbias, but I don't think it's right for me to make an assessment (for myself, not anyone else) without hearing both sides.

I think what the Hetalia artists did were a bit immature though, from what I read they portrayed South Korea without any personality at all, but simply as a goofy breast-grabber wearing a Hanbok, which I would be insulted about too.

I was kinda insulted reading the authors notes that states Canadians take breaks and lunches with business-like leisure. As if it was a Canada only thing. Sorry, but to my knowledge and experience, it's a North American-wide concept. Americans do it too. He said be expected to wait a while, despite it being busy, lol.

I understand, now, living in Korea, how the two worlds are different, and how great it is here (for service anyway). There is hardly ever any wait time. But, also working here, I understand how unhealthy that is too. You work long hours with little breaks, and often are expected to come in on Saturdays sometimes too. A really shocking concept to some North Americans who find a job outside of teaching English here or in Japan. (I think teaching English, despite it's problems, is quite luxurious compared to your average job).

So, I understand now where the lack of patience comes from when people visit Canada and America. Everywhere you have to wait, banks... post office, there is never any lines. Ever. Not even if people are waiting. Hospitals too. You take a chit with a number on it, from the machine, and sit on a luxuriously comfy chair/couch and read magazines, and wait for your turn. Even at immigration, where's it's packed, you can do it, and buy ice cream, and stuff. It's really a country about service. So I can understand the shock when people visit Canada or America and have to be patient, or stand in line to hold their place. I can fathom how they think these methods are archaic, and I can probably see how I might be pissed at having to deal with them when I move back, after experiencing life here.

I'll also miss the jimjilbang (bath house) and the ajumma (old women) with the scrubby gloves hahaha.

I won't miss paying exorbant amounts of money for heat. I won't miss lack of insulation in the apartment. I also won't miss the lack of notice (sometimes same day) for big duties required to be done (when my boss has known about it for weeks). I won't miss being told last minute, I have to cover someone's classes (when again my boss has known about it for a year), or the sick kids. I'll miss the kids, just not their gross, dirty germs, haha. I won't miss not being able to talk to people (save for when I'm in a cab, I'll miss being able to feign ignorance and sit there quietly). I'll miss cheap cabs too. I'll probably miss the whole shrimp avacado burger from Lotteria, I won't miss their almost stale buns though. I do already miss the fact that fastfood restaurants never stay open late here. I'll miss the kindness of random strangers, but I won't miss the crap expected of me by parents. I'll definitely miss my free cable room.

There's more but this is going on too long. Blah.

Go read Hetalia. http://nisecal.googlepages.com/home <---scanlations

Question!

Quick question: How do I enable comments to be mailed to me? Not just on my own journal but when I comment on someone else's and someone replies to my comment? How do I enable LJ to email them to me? I can't seem to find the option ANYWHERE (I fail). Telling me where to look, or what it's called would be helpful. I don't have any luck at all in finding it in FAQ either.

Thanks

Sorry...

I know I haven't posted in a long time but that's because I've been sick and things have gotten better aside from my sickness. Things are becoming habit and I'm able to wing things now..

Of course, things are a rollercoaster of stressbucket events.

One teacher keeps asking me to have meetings about the students last minute. I don't blame her, and she's really one of my closest friends here but it's difficult to be put into a position where I have to meet over lunch time, when I wasn't planning on staying this lunch.

Today, someone's meeting ran late, causing me to wait in my class for almosst another class and I really wouldn't mind but I forgot my blackboard marker at home so now with the time I have left, I can't really run back and get it. Thankfully, I don't need it for my next class, really, aside from writing the spelling words.. but since there's only two students I can dictate it to them....

At the end of the month is open house and the foreign teachers are having to teach the students a song (it's the usual thing since we usually sing one once a month for the birthday party) however, because it's Open House, the song and dance have to be flawless because it's representing to new, potential clients what Little America can do. It also shows the parents who are paying bundles for their kids to be here, what they've learned.

Previously, I buckled under my kids pressure to do Hakuna Matata (they were demanding it every month)... and I don't know how I'm going to be with my own kids... but I'm horrible. I really care what they think and feel, and I give them the chance to have an input or be creative on everything. I am strict though, when they fight, are violent, and say mean things (or just don't listen). I just am not as strict as everybody else it seems.

Thankfully, Julie agreed that it wasn't working out (I couldn't find the right version the previous teacher used) and we defaulted to Thumbalina (something the girls can sing in their sleep). The boys however are non-surplussed, but I've bribed them with buying something really nice if they pretend they're happy about singing it, ahaha.

The youngest ones are singing Little Bunny Foo Foo, to which I think I have to find another version because there's too much talking in Sharon Lois and Bram's. I can just sing it myself though and wing it, so long as they know the majority of words and sound like they know it. There's no hope for two of the students because they're so far behind, and one student is deathly shy, it'll be up to the two brightest and best in the class to make it work :/ I know you must think I'm really negative for saying there's no hope, but what I mean is.. they are so far behind, they need to be in a different level. If I sing a song to their level, the parents whose kids are higher will be angry at the simplicity, so we have to cater to the squeakiest wheel and sing the hardest song we can. The shy boy just freezes and stands there, terrified, he is really good, but lately, he's been getting sillier and refuses to print neatly (?). The boy who slacked off before is working hard, but I don't think he will be able to fairly sing it clearly.

The class was original divided into two levels, but now one student is getting so good it's becoming three levels easily. :/ It's increasingly becoming more difficult to teach. I hope in March they break up the class, really, because they just can't be taught fairly as one group.

After March hits though, the stressful bump will be over. February is when I have to finish all the books. Some I finished too soon, and some I'm behind on (mainly due to classroom issues with really disruptive students, and one because the book was started late... my bad).

I really can't wait.

My friend invited me to visit her in Malaysia, and I really want to go, but to the tune of 800,000 won for the flight... I'll wait until I can go for a longer time than 3 days. (It's a 6 hour flight). I might see if she's available for my summer vacation week in August <3

Oh, and I got a boyfriend... and it's not that it's a secret, but there's a lot to tell that I don't feel like making public, if you understand. If you want to know, I can tell you in a comment or an email or something ^^

My hands currently look like a bad tattoo artist did them. The kindergarteners got a permanent marker and decorated my hands, and gave me a "manicua" they said, lol.

TTYL Bell rang.

My entire class got perfect on their spelling test (Kindergarten) so they all get a prize. They were screaming in the class for joy haha.

My elementary class had a cheater so he rewrote the test.... he did fine.

Now, I have a break but my boss talked about the hospital bills from August. He will collect they health insurance payment as if he was the company, and pay the percent of the bill. If I can get a refund from Canada, he will want the money back, but he will refund me the fee.

Blaaah. I wish I could charge dotori, dammit. Maybe I can ask someone nicely to give me dotori and I will pay then won for it in person :D
