Thoughts Before Riding the Botchan Train ー June /13 (Saturday) 2026

Today, my husband and I plan to ride the Botchan Train together.

The ride lasts only about twenty minutes, yet it costs 1,300 yen. As a means of transportation, it is certainly not inexpensive. Still, I wanted to experience it at least once as a memory of my time in Matsuyama.

After arriving at Dogo Onsen Station, we plan to walk through the shopping arcade, enjoy some Botchan Dango, and perhaps visit Dogo Onsen if time allows. Since the Eden bus does not operate on Saturdays, I am planning to take an Iyotetsu bus back for the first time.

When I think about it, this simple outing may turn into a full day of exploration.

Spending time with my husband over the past few days has reminded me once again how different we are.

Yesterday, after leaving Matsuyama Castle, we headed toward a Starbucks. I relied on Google Maps to guide me, while my husband seemed to have the entire area mapped out in his head. I have always struggled with directions and spatial awareness. Throughout our marriage, he has pointed this out many times, but it is not something that can easily be changed.

At the same time, when we visited the Botchan Train Museum, I found myself carefully reading the displays and learning about the history. My husband glanced through it quickly and moved on.

Even when we are standing in the same place, we often notice different things and become interested in different details.

This trip has reminded me of that once again.

I sometimes wonder what my husband really thinks about activities like riding the Botchan Train. Perhaps he is not as excited about it as I am.

But I have decided not to worry too much about that.

We do not need to see everything in the same way.

He has his own interests and way of enjoying things, and I have mine.

Today is a beautiful Saturday, and I would like to enjoy it as much as possible.
