First Ride in the Rain and a Sense of ReliefーJune 8, Mon,2026

Today I had an eye clinic appointment at 3:30 p.m.

The weather forecast suggested rain, but I decided to go by my electric three-wheeled bicycle anyway. I took care of an errand on the way and arrived much earlier than expected.

At the clinic, I underwent several examinations, and fortunately no significant problems were found. The results of my cataract surgery continued to look good, and the condition that had concerned me in the past was stable.

I also asked about my glasses.

The frame has been worrying me because I had previously been told that repairs would be difficult due to the age of the parts. However, the staff explained that my current glasses still provide excellent vision. Rather than paying for a new prescription, they suggested that I simply take my current glasses to an optical shop and discuss replacement options there.

That advice eased some of my concerns.

The surprise came on the way home.

The rain had been light when I left, but by the time I headed back it had become quite heavy.

Although I had a raincoat with me, I still ended up soaked. Even my T-shirt was wet.

Still, I managed to ride the electric three-wheeled bicycle up the hills and make it home safely.

To be honest, I had hoped to avoid riding in the rain altogether. But there was no convenient bus and no taxi stand nearby, so cycling was the only practical choice.

As a result, today became my very first experience riding the three-wheeler in serious rain.

Thanks to the waterproof covers on the front and rear baskets, everything I was carrying stayed dry. The bicycle also handled the hills better than I had expected.

When I got home, I immediately took off my raincoat, enjoyed a hot bath, and did the laundry.

Later, while eating a bowl of ramen, I reflected on the day.

My eyes are fine.

My bicycle is fine.

I got completely soaked, but somehow I came away feeling a little more confident than before.
