Rediscovering the Meaning of Eating as My Own Experience— A Two-Week Change Noticed in My Life in Matsuyama — 2026/5/17 (Sun) R8
I have begun to feel, for the first time, what it means to “eat” as something truly my own experience.
It has only been a little over two weeks since I moved into Matsuyama Eden no Sono,
yet within this short time, a significant change has been taking place inside me.
Looking back, I realize that I have not treated “eating” as something very important in my life.
Work, study, relationships, and raising children always came first.
Meals were something that existed only in between those activities.
For my children, I tried to prepare balanced meals as much as I could.
But what about myself?
I often ate leftovers.
I ate while standing.
I quickly put food into my mouth because I had no time.
There were even days when I could not remember what I had eaten.
I thought I was “eating properly,”
but when I reflect on it now, I feel that I may not have truly eaten for the sake of my body.
⸻
Life in Matsuyama is completely different.
I sit down and eat at set times.
The meals include many small dishes.
I chew slowly and carefully.
After eating, I naturally become sleepy and allow my body to rest.
At first, I felt a little confused.
I even wondered if it was really okay to eat this slowly.
But now, I feel something different.
Eating is not simply about taking in nutrition.
It is a time for the body to settle, digest, and rest.
⸻
It has only been two weeks since I came here.
Even so, the meaning of “eating” within me is gradually changing.
From a life where eating was treated lightly,
to a life where eating is something I can truly feel and experience.
It is a major change,
and I believe it is still a work in progress.
