The Day I Began Thinking About How to Make Things Sustainable — 2026/5/19 (Tue) R8
Yesterday, I spent time thinking about “continuity” through various experiences, including the “Ikigai Classroom” (brain training), a hospital visit, and practicing my electric tricycle.
Until recently, I often thought I should do brain training or exercise, but I would also find it troublesome or place it lower on my list of priorities.
However, after actually participating in the Ikigai Classroom, I realized that even simple-looking activities such as calculation, memory exercises, and finger movements require quite a lot of both mental and physical effort. I also became more aware of the things I cannot yet do.
The same applies to practicing the electric tricycle. I am now able to climb slopes and stop safely using the brakes, and little by little, I am gaining more control. At the same time, I still have challenges, such as restarting after stopping on a slope.
When I started thinking about joining a gym, I realized that what matters most is not what I do, but how I can continue doing it without strain.
Since I do not ride my bicycle on rainy days, it is important that I can still go using the facility bus when needed. It also needs to match my daily rhythm, and the plan should allow me to go swimming three times a week without overburdening myself. I realized that choosing under these conditions is what leads to sustainability.
From now on, I want to choose not “exercise that I must force myself to do,” but “exercise that I can continue naturally.”
