Why I Brought Mostly Winter Clothes — Thoughts While Organizing My Wardrobe in Matsuyama — 2026/5/26(Tue) R8

Since coming to Matsuyama, I have been slowly organizing my clothes.

But when I look at the piles still sitting on the shelves, I realize that most of them are winter items.

Heat-tech innerwear. Thick socks. Clothes for layering.

I have always been sensitive to the cold, and in winter I used to wear many layers.

So during this move, I think I was very focused on preparing for the cold.

Besides, I actually moved to Matsuyama at the end of March, when there was still a chill in the air.

Within the limited luggage I allowed myself, I thought I had chosen about three outfits for each season. But looking back now, my choices were definitely biased toward winter.

On the other hand, my memories of summer clothes were surprisingly vague.

Back in Shizuoka, I rode my electric bicycle to the gym even during summer. I attended swimming classes and studio programs, and I wore Zumba workout clothes as well.

T-shirts and shorts. Brightly colored sportswear. Sometimes long pants.

And yet now I find myself wondering, “What exactly did I wear back then?”

Since coming here, my daily life has become a combination of going to the dining hall, visiting hospitals, and moving around by bicycle.

Because of that, clothing can no longer be chosen based only on fashion.

Protection from falls. Protection from the sun. Air-conditioning. Easy washing. Being able to rotate a small number of outfits.

And also the feeling of “not wanting to stand out too much.”

Today, while organizing things, I found a pair of pants I used to wear.

“Oh… this is the kind of thing I used back then.”

It helped me remember a little.

Perhaps what I need now is not to buy new clothes, but to find combinations that work for the life I live now.

Of course, when I return to Shizuoka someday, I will probably look through my summer clothes again.

Should I bring only what is truly necessary? Or, if something is absolutely needed, should I buy it here?

If possible, I do not want to increase my belongings anymore.

In the end, I know I will gradually reduce what I own anyway.

Still, right now, through clothing, I find myself thinking about what is truly necessary in my life — and what is not.

I thought I was organizing clothes.

But perhaps I am really organizing the way I want to live from now on.
