Sorting Out My Life in Matsuyama in the Middle of the Night — 2026/5/26(Tue) R8

Last night, for the first time in a while, I completely lost the energy to write a note.

I had been visiting many hospitals, carrying referral letters, meeting new doctors, and trying to reconnect all of my medical care here in Matsuyama. I think my mind was simply exhausted.

Psychiatry, neurology, orthopedics, gastroenterology, ophthalmology, urology, dentistry…

I am slowly rebuilding the medical network that had supported me for many years in Shizuoka.

Not everything has settled yet.

I want to go back to a gym, but I am still holding myself back for now.I also want to become more confident riding my three-wheeled electric bicycle. And there are still several hospital appointments remaining.

Even so, little by little, life here is beginning to take shape.

Recently, I have been making it to the morning radio exercises almost every day.I set my alarm for 6:20 a.m., throw something on over my pajamas, and hurry downstairs.

There was a time when I hated sunlight in the morning.

When my husband tried to open the curtains, I would tell him not to.For many years, morning itself felt heavy to me.

But now, the morning sun no longer feels so unbearable.

I have started joining the brain-training classes and mahjong lessons at the residence.Sometimes I realize how much I have slowed down, and there are moments when I can clearly feel my own aging.

But perhaps that, too, is part of who I am now.

In the middle of the night, I woke up, took one sleeping pill, and tried lying down again.I still do not know whether I will fall asleep.

While listening to random YouTube videos about the Edo period or late-life divorce, I found myself quietly sorting out my new life in Matsuyama.

My days may seem filled with hospital visits, but somewhere in between, a new daily life is slowly beginning to grow
