The Day Invisible Money Let Me See My Life. 2026/5/15 (Fri) R8

When I lived with my husband,
I rarely gave deep thought to the electricity or water bills.
It wasn’t because I was careless.
I fulfilled my roles at home and at work with care.
It was simply this—
the payments were withdrawn from his account,
and he kept the bankbook.
Until I retired, I managed the household finances.
I could see every number and every flow.
But after retirement, things gradually shifted,
and I found myself in a life that functioned
even when I couldn’t see the details.
Now it is different.
When I use something, I am the one who pays.
That simple fact has brought the outline of daily life into clearer focus.
I think about how often I do the laundry.
I think about how I use the air conditioner.
I think about what I keep in the refrigerator.
I am not trying to save money.
I am quietly observing what is truly necessary.
Before I knew it, I had stopped watching television.
I don’t really know why.
But perhaps I no longer need to receive
what simply flows toward me.
My own daily life has become enough.
It’s not that I depended on him.
I was simply living within a system
where things were hard to see.
Now, I am looking at my life
with my own eyes.
