Timer: 20 Minutes, the Hill, and Me — May 16, 2026 (Sat) R8

Today, I made a little progress.
Before listening to any AI advice, I first set a 20-minute timer and decided on a fixed practice time.
After checking my balance and feeling on flat ground for a while, I headed toward the hill.
Starting a short distance before the slope, I built up more momentum than usual, lifted my gaze firmly upward, and pedaled with all my strength.
On the first try, I made it all the way to the top.
“I did it.”
That’s what I thought.
But as I started going down, a new problem appeared.
On a steep slope, the brakes do not work perfectly.
I gripped hard and pressed with all my strength and somehow managed to stop.
But the thought that a car might have been coming sent a chill down my spine.
This was the first thing I learned today.
Since I had succeeded, I decided to try again.
I gathered speed the same way and kept my eyes fixed upward as I started climbing.
But about two-thirds of the way up, the handlebars turned slightly to one side.
I stopped with the brake, but the tricycle slowly slid backward.
Just as I had been taught, I squeezed the left brake and tried to push forward again.
But I kept slipping.
No matter how many times I tried, I couldn’t recover.
In the end, I had no choice but to keep both feet on the ground and, still straddling the tricycle, drag myself little by little all the way to the top.
I tried a few more times.
I succeeded once. Maybe twice.
What I finally understood was this:
“Where I start from”
“Where I place my gaze”
These make a very big difference.
The fear when going down the hill has not changed yet.
I wonder if there is a way to stop more securely.
But compared to yesterday, this is tremendous progress.
I will rest this afternoon, but I want to keep practicing.
Slowly, steadily.
Sixty-seven years old.
Still in the process of learning to master an electric tricycle.
Since I bought it, I want to keep trying.
