I’m Not Sure Yet If This Is a Hopeful Morning — 2026/5/20 (Wed) R8

This morning, while doing radio calisthenics, the phrase “hopeful morning” stayed in my ears.
I must have heard these lyrics countless times before,
yet for some reason, today, only those words caught my attention.
I grew up in the city of Osaka, and as a child, radio calisthenics was not part of my life.
Festival mikoshi were not carried on shoulders, but passed by on trucks.
Study and exercise.
After becoming a teacher, my days were filled with busyness and the stress of human relationships.
Marriage, raising children.
I remember eating breakfast standing up.
It felt less like savoring a meal and more like getting something done.
Even after retirement, I continued working quietly with English and acupuncture,
and I feel as though I have been running nonstop all my life.
Mornings in the past were:
rushed mornings,
catch-up mornings,
role-fulfilling mornings.
It’s not that there were no happy moments.
There must have been many — things about my children, moments of relief.
But I never had the space to truly feel them.
Now, things are a little different.
Sometimes a strange sense of fullness makes me naturally sleepy.
I wake up at 4:30 a.m. with no reason to hurry.
Even if I can’t sleep, I can think, “Well, that’s fine.”
For the past three weeks since coming here, I have continued doing radio calisthenics.
Today, moving my body under a clear sky,
the words “hopeful morning” lingered in my mind.
If someone asked me whether today is truly a hopeful morning, I still wouldn’t know.
But—
the fact that these words caught my attention,
that I find it curious,
that I am looking up at the sky while moving my body—
perhaps hope does not appear clearly at first.
Perhaps it touches the heart quietly through words before it takes shape.
So today,
I’m not sure yet if this is a hopeful morning.
And yet,
it was a morning when those words remained with me.
