The Art of Shosa —Tohoku (東北): SHIRO+ Edition Edition

3 Days in Japan's Mystical North: Sanctuary of Spirits

Concept: "Dialogue with the Invisible."

東北の旅は、目に見えないものとの対話です。

This journey is not just about seeing beautiful landscapes; it’s about engaging with the spirits that reside in ancient cedars, historic temples, and the skilled hands of craftsmen. We invite you to learn "Shosa" (所作) that connect you to these deep, unseen energies.

Day 1: The Golden Stillness — 黄金の静寂

Hiraizumi: A World Heritage of Peace

Begin your journey in Hiraizumi, a UNESCO World Heritage site envisioned as a Buddhist Pure Land on earth. Here, silence is palpable, and history whispers through the pines.

  • Mindful Shosa: "Sanpai" (参拝). The sacred art of visiting a shrine or temple. Observe the rhythm of your breath as you bow, and feel the exact resonance of your clap at a shrine. It’s a profound synchronization of your soul with the space.

  • Stay: [世界遺産の隠れ宿 果実の森/ Hidden Inn of World Heritage: Fruit Forest]

Day 2: The Warmth of Craft — 手仕事のぬくもり

Yamagata & the Aesthetic of Iron

Journey to the enchanting snow-covered streets of Ginzan Onsen. Here, the focus of "Shosa" shifts to the tools and crafts shaped by human hands.

  • Mindful Shosa: Handling "Nambu Tekki" (南部鉄器). Pouring hot water from a heavy iron kettle is a simple yet powerful ritual. Feel its weight, the radiating heat, and the steady stream of water. This deliberate movement warms both the water and your spirit.

  • Stay: [名香庵 山形座 瀧波 / Yamagataza Takinami]

Day 3: The Breath of the Forest — 森の呼吸

Tohoku's Ancient Cedars & Inner Reflection

Before your departure, take a meditative walk through an avenue of ancient cedar trees, feeling the immense presence of nature.

Experience: [茶道カフェ青海波 / SEIKAIHA Nanyo]

Perched on the scenic coast of Awaji Island, SEIKAIHA Nanyo offers a tea ceremony experience like no other. Here, the boundary between the tea room and the ocean disappears, allowing you to find stillness amidst the rhythm of the waves.

  • Mindful Shosa: "Sado" (茶道) .  Practicing the tea ritual while listening to the sound of the ocean is a form of deep meditation. Focus on the "Tsukubai" (蹲) ritual — the symbolic purification of hands and heart — before entering the serene space. The slow, rhythmic movement of whisking matcha becomes synchronized with the ebb and flow of the tide.

  • The Ritual: Notice the reflection of the sun on your green tea. This is "Ichi-go Ichi-e" (一期一会) — the realization that this exact moment, this bowl of tea, and this view will never exist in the same way again.
