Reading "The Day of the Gorilla Court": Weaving Two Perspectives into a Single Canvas.
When I was a child, my teacher said during class, "Let's turn this story into a picture." To this day, I still remember it vividly—how my teacher was surprised and praised me so warmly because my approach was a little different from everyone else's. Perhaps that very moment was the dawn of my creative journey.
Lately, I had found myself simply playing around and experimenting with illustrations. But the moment I finished reading the novel "The Day of the Gorilla Court," that long-lost sensation suddenly rushed back to me. For the first time in a while, a spark ignited within: "How wonderful it would be to recreate this world with my own hands." Moved by this impulse, I began to guide the brush, collaborating with AI to bring it to life.
And so, this illustration was born. To capture the absolute core of the story—the stark contrast between human and gorilla—I infused the canvas with a powerful visual tension.
The left half: The human form. The right half: The gorilla's presence.
By deliberately splitting the frame in two, I sought to emphasize the boundary line that exists between these two worlds.
I chose this composition because I wanted to recreate the sensation of one’s gaze shifting back and forth while reading. The experience of empathizing with the human perspective on one page, only to be pulled into the gorilla’s gaze on the next—that fluid transition is exactly what I wanted to portray in a single frame.

By moving beyond just reading the novel and immersing myself in the process of translating it into art, a new awareness dawned on me. To read, to imagine, to paint, and then to weave those feelings back into words—I am once again feeling the gentle, comforting rhythm of this creative cycle.
The human gaze and the gorilla’s gaze: two entirely different ways of seeing the world. It reminds us of the profound importance of looking at things not just from a single direction, but through a prism of multiple truths. This beautiful story, which gifted me such a precious realization, has gently guided me back to the very roots of why I create.
