âãShould we always be happy?
âãPro
Yes, I believe that we should always be happy. While some say that they have the right to be negative and I agree, I clarify the difference between being unhappy and having negative feelings and thoughts. Let me explain.
Firstly, I am not insisting that we should ignore or stifle all the negative emotions because having negative feelings and thoughts can coexist with being happy. It is natural for a human being to have negative emotions. We all have the right to be sad and melancholy, angry and frustrated. The important thing is that we should not turn these negative feelings and thoughts into unhappily biased beliefs which are the causes of unhappiness, and which are what I am opposing.
Unhappily biased beliefs have harmful effect on other people and society as the whole. For instance, hate crimes are often committed by people who have unhappily biased views about certain nationality, race, religion, social status, and gender while people without discrimination often respect and live accordance with others. These mean that if all the human beings are always happy without any unhappily biased beliefs, many hate crimes and discrimination can be eradicated.
In conclusion, as I stated above, we should avoid having unhappily biased beleifs and should always be happy.

âãCon
No, I do not by any means believe that we should always be happy.
The first reason is that forcing others to always be happy is a form of human rights violation. We have the freedom to choose our emotional state. No one has the right to impose any specific mental attitude on others. In addition, positivism often functions as capitalistic exploitation, which is incidentally another form of infringement on human rights. Certain managers want to force employees to be positive and happy because they want their employees to work harder without complaining. Social structures are the ones which should be changed, not unhappy individuals.
The second reason is that always trying to be positive often harms mental health. Many scientific reports state that ignoring and repressing negative feelings and thoughts aggravates depression. Unhappiness should be cared instead of being supplanted by forced happiness.
The final reason is that it is simply impossible to always be happy. Happiness is just a temporary condition of human brain which is not made for always retaining the same state. Thus, insisting that we should always be happy demands the impossible, which is preposterous.
In conclusion, as I stated above, I do not believe that we should always be happy.
