The pros and cons of space exploration
âãPro
While some contend that space exploration is a waste of time and money, I strongly believe that it is indispensable for the future of human beings for the following reasons.
Firstly, in this modern age, national defense depends on space infrastructure such as global positioning system and the Internet, it is inevitable for a nation to develop space technology. It is not an exaggeration to say that the country which rules the space also rules other countries and consequently the Earth.
Moreover, CO2 and nuclear waste which are the byproducts of conventional power generations have a serious impact on the environment while the shortage of electricity aggravates year by year. Under these circumstances, one of the most effective solutions is the solar power generated in the space since it provides electricity more effectively and cleanly than conventional power generations.
Furthermore, rapid population growth is also a severe problem which cannot be solved within the Earth. If human population grows at this rate, the Earth will not be able to sustain the whole population of humanity in the near future. Hence, the immigration to Mars is not only plausible but almost mandatory.
All the aforementioned reasons make space exploration indispensable for the future of human beings.

âãCon
Although there are many people who are extremely enthusiastic about space exploration and the media seem to love making a sensation out of it, I doubt that it is a right thing to do, for the following reasons.
Firstly, there are a countless number of serious terrestrial issues. There are many conflicts between certain countries. There are many individuals who are suffering from certain diseases. There are natural disasters such as flood and earthquake. There are severe environmental problems such as global warming and deforestation. The resources consumed by space exploration should have been put to solve these terrestrial things first, instead of wasting them by pursuing unrealistic dreams.
Moreover, space debris is a serious issue. Now that thousands of defunct space satellites are orbiting around the Earth, if a meteor hit one of them, it can fall onto to the ground. This will cause serious consequences especially when it falls on a populated area.
Finally, space exploration simply does not pay. It costs so much time and money while the benefits are small for most people. As for space exploration, the success rate is too low because only a small uncertainty ruins a plan.
For the reasons above, I disagree with space exploration, at least until many terrestrial issues are solved.
