Abstract
With the rapid expansion of generative AI, education must shift from meaning-first instruction to structure-based verification. This study proposes Non-Explanatory Education (Cognitive Learning Ver.2.0) grounded in Human–AI Text⇔Image Circulation Engineering. Instead of providing answers in advance, learners reconstruct logical structures through cycles of text analysis, visual conversion, and embodied experimentation. Using one hundred peer-reviewed papers as structural sources, students extract hypothesis–process–result relationships through SVO English transformation, nine-point review frameworks, and visual media such as framed paintings, animation, and six-panel comics. Field practice and home-based clay experiments demonstrate a transition from passive meaning reception to active structural reconstruction. The method preserves human agency while positioning AI as a structural guide rather than an explanatory authority. The results suggest that structure-centered inquiry can reduce experiential gaps and provide a sustainable model for engineering and clay-science education.
Introduction
Traditional education emphasizes cognitive ability defined as solving given problems and obtaining correct answers. While meaningful interpretation remains essential, generative AI now delivers answers instantly. Therefore, the critical educational challenge is not access to meaning but the ability to verify structural relationships within language and knowledge systems. This paper introduces Non-Explanatory Education as a framework that encourages learners to reconstruct structure rather than memorize meaning.
Concept of Non-Explanatory Education
Non-Explanatory Education intentionally avoids premature explanations. Learners focus on structural elements such as cause, sequence, and result. Instead of absorbing meaning passively, students rebuild textual order through observation and reasoning. Cognitive learning represents the ability to solve; Non-Explanatory Education represents the ability to reconstruct. In the AI era, inquiry emerges from structural verification rather than from answer acquisition.
Human–AI Text⇔Image Circulation Engineering
The proposed methodology integrates linguistic and visual cycles. Japanese and classical texts, SVO English structures, nine-point peer review logic, and comparative AI analysis are transformed into framed visual artifacts including paintings, animation, and six-panel comics. Through repeated circulation between text and image, learners internalize hypothesis–process–result structures. The framework follows a Quality-In, Quality-Out philosophy using peer-reviewed academic sources as structural anchors.
Educational Practice
Outreach programs and collaborative workshops were conducted with learners ranging from early elementary students to university participants. Clay-based embodied learning tools — Halloween Mud Balls, Hollow Shiny Mud Balls, and Mud-Ball Batteries — enabled tactile experimentation. Instructions were minimized to encourage independent structural reasoning. Learners submitted reflective texts that were converted by AI into framed visual works for structural analysis.
Results
Only 0–5% of learners reconstructed two visual structures from a single text, while approximately 75% remained in a meaning-dependent stage. However, repeated Text⇔Image circulation increased iterative thinking and structural awareness. The findings indicate that structure-centered learning enhances inquiry processes beyond traditional explanation-based models.
Discussion
The framework does not replace human thinking with AI. Instead, AI functions as a structural indicator guiding reconstruction. Transforming text into images and returning images to text reduces the illusion of understanding and strengthens reflective cognition. This approach addresses experiential inequality rather than academic ranking.
Conclusion
Human–AI Text⇔Image Circulation Engineering provides a practical pathway from meaning-driven education to structure-based inquiry. Non-Explanatory Education (Cognitive Learning Ver.2.0) demonstrates potential for sustainable engineering education by combining logical rigor with visual cognition. The integration of clay science, structural literacy, and AI mediation suggests a new paradigm for inquiry-based learning in the AI era.
