(8) Even if trampled or picked | Travelogue "I don't call that a journey"

This is the English version of the original Japanese essay.
    Original Japanese version available here.

The last place I visited, the Karuizawa Museum of Literature, had paintings by Fumiko Hori on display.

There, on the wall, were words by Ayako Hori, which appeared to have been written by a curator.

    "Blooming and scattering,

    the flow of life,

    I want to paint

the life of the flower itself."

I couldn't take my eyes off them,
so I took out my notebook and wrote them down.

A little further on, there were more words
    placed there.

    "Nameless flowers blooming quietly

by the roadside or in the corner of a garden,

    without being praised,

while being shunned, they never bent their will,

the admirable strength of having continued to live.

Even if trampled or picked, they did not give up,

they survived. In the figures of these nameless weeds,

    There are no unnecessary decorations.'

     My eyes grew hot

Because there was no one around

I let myself be free for a moment

     And took out a handkerchief.

Then, I wrote those words down in my notebook.

I wanted to be like that, too.

And so, I bought a postcard and wrote it at a coffee shop called 'A Bunch of Grapes' located in front of the Karuizawa Museum of Literature, to my sister who had recommended this trip to me.

I thought about how I was writing a letter from my travel destination. How sentimental.

     Even though there is LINE.

But I wanted to write words of gratitude that I couldn't say over LINE.

I wanted to tell her that the coffee I was drinking at the shop during the trip she recommended was, just as the shop staff said, delicious coffee that was neither sour nor bitter, just the way I like it. I wanted to tell her that even though I had resisted so much, I was having fun.

I went to the mailbox in the rain and posted the postcard.

I had planned to return by taxi, but I couldn't get through on the Taxi Go app.

After thinking for a moment, I remembered there was a bus stop, and after confirming it was for Karuizawa Station, I had about 40 minutes left, so I went back to 'A Bunch of Grapes' just one more time to kill time.

Once I return to the pension, I think I will go to the dining room again after dinner to publish my note.
