🌐Introverted Hobbies | Daily Slips and Trips

This is the English version of the original Japanese essay.
    Original Japanese version available here.

    A Box of Hobbies

    I am relatively introverted.

I often see people who can strike up a conversation with strangers with ease, and I feel envious, and then beyond that, I find it mysterious.

"Why do the words come out so easily?" I wonder.

Though I am someone who lacks words like that, I have an unusually large number of hobbies that involve my hands.

I have a box for every hobby, and all the tools are stored inside them.

For example, there is a "box for eco-bands (strips of recycled paper made of 1mm twisted paper, 12 strands glued together)," a "calligraphy box," a "yarn box," and a "bead box." It is not a box, but there is a "stamp drawer." It is something like that.

One day in the past, I realized something. My hobbies are introverted, so they are "invisible from the outside."

Back then, even if I made a basket, I would just use it as a storage container in my room after finishing it, and since I was not writing calligraphy with the intention of presenting it anywhere, it never caught anyone's eye.

I felt it was a waste that even though I worked so hard to create things, they could never be part of my communication with others.

    Hobbies Visible from the Outside

So, I decided to have "hobbies visible from the outside" even if they were "introverted hobbies."

What about things I can wear?

How about making a ring with beads and wearing it?

How about knitting a scarf with yarn and wearing it?

How about making a basket with eco-bands and carrying it around?

How about making bags out of paper stamped with my seals and using them?

In that way, I increased my "introverted hobbies that are visible from the outside."

I feel fulfilled when I am making things. Because it is fun.

And when I wear them out, there are people who say, "Actually, I also..." which becomes a conversation starter.

    That made me very happy.

    The destination of introverted hobbies

The other day, since I had already written the article for my note update, I thought maybe for once I would spend the weekend making bead rings instead of writing. I was sure I had some beads I had intended to use but left untouched.

Thinking that, I made one on Saturday and one on Sunday, for a total of two rings.

One is orange and the other is pink.

They are such cute colors that I was really looking forward to the finished product.

    When they were finished,

    "Nice!"

That is the kind of ring it was.

I immediately tried wearing the ring. The light pink bead ring made a flower bloom on my finger.

A "hobby visible from the outside" as a splash of color in daily life.

I think it was also because I envied my mother doing dressmaking.

I did not learn dressmaking. However, my "hobbies" as a substitute have
    increased.

When I concentrate on working with my hands, my head sometimes gets
filled with noise, so I play "mountain sounds."

The sound of a flowing river, the call of a cuckoo, the rustling of trees swaying
    in the wind.

A quiet time passes while listening to them.

    Another piece is finished.

My stance is to create at my own leisure. Without pressure, without rushing. That pace is just right for me.
