人は直線よりも曲線に「穏やか」「優しい」「静か」というイメージをもつのだそうです。
The Feeling Value of Lines (Poffenberger & Barrows,1924) 以降、国内外多数の研究事例があり、建築やインテリアにも応用されているようです。
そういえば、茶室の床柱も直線ではないですね。自然の中にも直線はあまりないように思います。実際に、私も公園に行くとほっとします。 (続く)

Curved lines are often perceived as calmer, gentler, and quieter than straight lines.
Since 1924, a large number of research cases have been reported, e.g. The Feeling Value of Lines (Poffenberger & Barrows, 1924) and have been applied to architectural and interior design practices.
Speaking of which, “Tokobashira“ of Japanese traditional tea room seems to reflect this principle. It also seems that straight lines are rarely found in nature. In fact, when I go to a park, I feel relaxed. (To be continued)
