English translation below
【Today's Essay】
When autumn comes, the earth underfoot dries a little, and the sound of walking changes.
More than the visible flowers, I found myself thinking of the unseen roots that hold them up.
What is not showy is what braces hardest, down in the deepest place.
Because the foundation does not sway, the things above are free to sway, I think.
Today, in your heart, try saying thank you to what quietly holds you up.
【Today's Tanka】
Autumn earth —
though it is trodden on,
it stays silent,
and in a place unseen
keeps on holding us up.
And so — enjoy the rest of your day.
From Mount Fuji in Japan, to you.
