I have deep respect not only for the artists who designed ukiyo-e prints,
but also for the artisans whose skills, dedication, and quiet spirit supported these creations from behind the scenes.

Ukiyo-e is often spoken of as the work of a single artist.
But in truth, the prints could never exist without the carvers and printers—
craftsmen whose names rarely remain in history,
yet who devoted their lives to bringing the artist’s vision into the world.

    They received the artist’s intention,
asked themselves how to express it more beautifully,
and sometimes even surpassed the imagination of the original designer.
That striving, that humility, and that craftsmanship move me deeply.

I believe that ukiyo-e has survived the passing of time
because of the mutual respect between artist and artisan.
    The artist honored the craftsmen,
and the craftsmen elevated the artist’s vision.
This quiet collaboration created a cultural legacy strong enough to endure for centuries.

The beauty of ukiyo-e is not only in what we see,
but in the invisible hands and hearts that shaped it.
