【EN】 My “Spiri-Do”

Why do Japanese people love adding “-dō” (a “Way”) to whatever they’re doing?

    It’s like saying:
“If I’m suffering, then everyone else should suffer too. That’s just how it is.”

    It feels suffocating.
That mindset is just another prison.
And honestly, it’s always the boring people who love talking like that, right?
    I’m tired of it.

    No—stop. That’s the wrong attitude.
That attitude is exactly why I’m here,
writing quietly on a tiny account
    where nobody’s watching.

I should be the kind of person who finds love in everything—
who loves love, is loved by love,
and if there’s even a shred of gentleness in me,
I should shove it to the front with both hands.

    Like—
    first sentence: love.
    second sentence: love.
    punchline: love.
    That kind of intensity.
    That kind of human.

    Otherwise people drift away.
And honestly… you’re already sick of it, aren’t you?

So, starting today, I too shall begin my journey:
    my “Spiritual Way.”
    For short: Spiri-dō.

    Spiri-dō, huh…
    It doesn’t really land.
It sounds like someone trapped in a dead end
finally giving up and choosing that route.

And if I’m going to say “Spiri-dō” so casually,
shouldn’t I at least write something that shows growth—
something I can actually give back to society?

Alright then. Starting today, I will enroll in a
    Spiritual Handling Skills Course,
become a Certified Spiritual Work Supervisor,
and pass the Class-4 Spirit-Substance Handler Exam.

    Wait—wait—wait—wait.
Where would a course like that even exist?
    What is a “spirit-substance”?
Don’t talk about spirituality like it’s hazardous materials.

    But still…
If spirituality were a national license,
it would be like Harry Potter.
(Though I’ve never actually watched Harry Potter.)

Maybe it really was like that long ago.
Maybe the things that used to be respected
    somehow became “not allowed” now.
    Even though humans haven’t changed.

…But even if I drop a three-line “core truth” like that,
    nobody’s going to think,
    “Wow, this person is smart.”

    No. I’m still lacking Spiri-dō.
    I need more Spiri-dō.
    This isn’t Spiri-dō at all.

    Teacher—
    what is Spiri-dō?
