There are a few reasons why I gradually fell deeper into my skincare obsession.

One of them is the cost of cosmetic treatments in the United States. Compared with Japan, the prices feel like they are on a completely different level, and for me, they have always felt a little out of reach.

I used to get photofacials occasionally at the spa inside Life Time, the gym where I am a member. Even back then, I already thought they were expensive. Later, the prices went up even more, and I eventually gave up on continuing them.

I think that was around the time my interest in skincare started to deepen.

My mother may have influenced me as well. She had beautiful skin and continued to spend money on skincare until the end of her life.

At the same time, I started eating out less for health reasons, and I also began drinking alcohol much less often. I go out less in general now, so I do not have as many reasons to buy clothes as I once did.

One of the pleasures that remained was skincare.

Of course, I do not believe skincare alone can change everything.

Still, when people compliment my skin, or when I am asked to show ID while buying alcohol even after turning 60, I sometimes feel that, at least for me, spending money on skincare may be worth it after all.

And that brings me to one of the brands in my skincare obsession: Lancôme.

For me, Lancôme is not necessarily a skincare line I use in full every single day. I think of it more as slightly more active skincare that I bring into my routine two or three times a week.

For my first serum, I use Advanced Génifique Face Serum.

My toner is Clarifique Double Treatment Essence.

It is a toner that also focuses on brightening, and even though my skin is relatively sensitive, I have been able to use this one without any problems.

I also feel that truly light, refreshing toners are not as common in the United States, so for now, this is one Lancôme product I use every day.

For brightening serum, I use Clarifique Pro-Solution Brightening & Dark Spot Reducing Serum. At the moment, I am using a small sample bottle that came with one of my purchases.

It feels like a product that could be effective, but for my skin, it is a little too strong to use every day.

So I currently use it about twice a week, usually during my daytime skincare routine.

On those days, I often use Lancôme from toner through serum and keep the routine within the same line.

At night, I use Rénergie C.R.x. Triple Serum Retinol, followed by Rénergie Fiber Lift Cream.

The serum contains ingredients such as retinol and vitamin C, while the cream is aimed more at firmness and lifting.

So far, I like how they feel on my skin, and I do think they could be effective when used properly.

At the same time, the combination feels a little too active for me to want to use every night.

It is not that I am using expensive skincare sparingly because I do not want to waste it.

For my sensitive skin, this frequency simply feels right.

If I only use something a couple of times a week, I try to choose the smaller size whenever one is available.

I also sometimes use Absolue The Eye Cream.

But Lancôme often includes eye cream and other skincare samples when I purchase something, so I honestly do not remember ever buying the full-size eye cream myself.

I also get to try many of their other products through samples, which means I am not constantly buying every item in the entire Lancôme line.

Now that I have written all of this down, I suppose this really does count as a skincare obsession after all. 😂

Still, I do not use everything generously every single day.

I pay attention to how my skin feels, decide which days to use stronger products, and which days to give my skin a break.

For me, enjoying skincare with that kind of distance feels like the easiest way to keep doing it for a long time.

For the first illustration, I used a photo of my own Lancôme skincare products and turned it into an illustration.

The second illustration was created from a photo taken while I was actually doing my husband’s skincare.

In everyday life, I spend much more time looking at my husband’s face than I do looking at my own, so at some point, I naturally started doing skincare for him too.

Skincare for a partner can become part of physical affection.

It is also a small moment when both people can feel a little softer and kinder toward each other.

That is something I would like to continue.

I also share parts of my everyday life that do not always fit into the blog, including outfits, exercise, and other moments, on Instagram.
