Are you a licensed midwife, considering the moniker "The Human Rites Midwife?"

I am not a licensed, government midwife. I do not claim to be, and I never aspire to be; when I attend births, I play the role of an emotional and spiritual support person, or doula - never a medical provider. I finished a traditional birth attendance gathering in the Winter of 2021, and, within that week, I recieved the channel: "you are a spiritual midwife - a midwife, guiding souls between realms", and this message reverberated chills down my spine; the etymology of the word midwife, itself, means 'with woman', and the foreshadowing of this specific diviner, who knew nothing of me, couldn't have been more accurate. I hold space for individuals - primarily women, through fertility and birth work, and navigating motherhood, but I also hold space for other transitions.

What other transitions do you hold space for?

I also hold space for the transitions of illness towards healing, or, in some cases, illness towards death. I provide physicial, emotional, and spiritual support to the individuals who are moving through the passage of death, and their families. We would like to avoid death, but, at the end of it all, birth and death are revolving doors. I spend the majority of my days, caregivng for those who are of advanced age, or in the early stages of end-of-life - palliative or hospice. I am a full-circle doula - a doula who holds the hands of those welcoming souls into this world, as well as holds the hands of those who are saying goodbye and exiting this world.
