Matriarch Makeover: A 30-Day Invitation: A Daily Practice to Transform Your Leadership Identity and Craft a Personalized Map Grounded in Your Unique Cultural Lineages. (Unabridged)Maija WestAudiobookA daily journaling practice to transform your leadership identity and craft a personalized map grounded in your unique cultural lineages. Twenty minutes a day for thirty days is all it takes to start your Matriarch Makeover. This book is an ecological, cultural, and political call to action for each of us to define a new path of integrity based on our respective lineages, where we take 100% responsibility for ourselves, our families, our communities, protecting Mother Earth, and all that is sacred. "This book needs to be wrapped in yellow caution tape! If you dare to enter into this, your life will change, and you will never go back. Transformational!"—A. Costa From the author: I'm a defector-turned-architect. I spent fifteen years inside the machinery of law and policy, close enough to power to see exactly how it's built, and then a sex trafficking case broke something open that couldn't be unseen. I took the structural literacy I'd earned in the courtroom and the boardroom and pointed it at governance itself—first inward, at myself and other leaders (Matriarch Makeover), then outward, at institutions. My calling is designing the successor governance—for the self and for institutions—to the patriarchal, colonial structures I was trained inside of and walked away from. My Latvian citizenship, the pirts tradition, the good-guest relationship with Indigenous teachers, the legal training I didn't discard but repurposed—those aren't separate threads. They're my source material and my credentials for doing this specific work. I am particularly committed to advancing ecological leadership and restoring pathways for matriarchal wisdom in modern governance.

If you are anything like I am, you are discerning about your time and what type of information, opinions and perspectives you choose to expose yourself to. I understand. We are being inundated with information with the oversaturation of the 24-hour news cycle and the fingertip availability of a quick Google search yielding millions of results. It is cumbersome to find wisdom that feels reliable and trustworthy. Where do we go to learn how to be a human being? How to be a leader, a parent or a child? What does it mean to have a relationship with nature or the natural world? What does it mean to practice culture if we were born and raised away from the homelands of our ancestors? Who can we trust to share this knowledge with us? My book is an invitation to support you in further developing your discernment, by tapping into your inner knowing, and cultivating your self-trust. “Any woman who desires to dig deeper into her soul, to rise up and let her light shine, could benefit from Maija’s wisdom and daily practices of self-reflection. This guide is a compilation from years of Maija’s embodied practices that she’s gathered from her professional work, commitment to social and racial justice through healing and reconciliation, reconnecting with her lineage, Indigenous wisdom, and her own inner ways of knowing. It’s been such a joy to witness her evolution over the years that has culminated in this generous offering to women around the world."— Louellyn White, Assistant Professor in the First Peoples Studies Program at Concordia University in Montreal, and author of Free to Be Mohawk: Indigenous Education at the Akwesasne Freedom School “This journey is a thoughtful and personal invitation to court another time, a time when people and cultures inhabited a knowing balance between feminine and masculine, human and all other life forms, and Earth. Taken to heart, it opens valuable doors into the strength of remembering, into intimate feelings of our deeper connections to our finest inherited selves, and into the larger communities in which we live and work.” — Stan Rushworth, Editor (with Dahr Jamail) of We Are in The Middle Of Forever: Indigenous Voices From Turtle Island On e Changing Earth; Faculty Emeritus, Native American literature. “This book needs to be wrapped in yellow caution tape! If you dare to enter into this, your life will change, and you will never go back. Transformational!” —Ana Costa, Founder of Ana Costa Fitness and Esquina Brooklyn; mother of two.
