So I've started a new forum with caffwin for plush artists, and I need some help:

Primarily in checking the rules, giving me pointers, and for you to join and add content and provide feedback, before I start advertising it. I am also open to different name ideas for the forum.

I would love it if any plush makers on my friends list could join and make a few posts if you are interested in it! I am still checking for any bugs or inconveniences that users may have due to admin settings, and I'd like to fix those with your feedback.

http://plush.yuku.com

Let's see if we can make this happen!

Grah. How am I even going to be able to decide about the Pokemon Center eeveelution plush that are coming out that look exactly the same, but standing?

At least blue and black works well in my collection :B Flareon is adorable, but would stick out like a sore thumb.

In other exciting plush news, I've been updating my plush making blog!

How Level 1 Tyranitars are born

Boy did it need it.
Before:

After:

And I stuffed BOTH cankles; just one done for comparison:

The weight of all giants is on a small area space, so they all sag and sink down over time. He has some in his tail that I need to restuff too.

It begins! I'm terrified of butchering him this entire time btw ;_;

Braiinnnss. They're filled with really high-quality stuffing. And thus we can confirm that the Pokemon Center/Tomy giants are beautiful and well-made both inside and out.

OMG WHAT IS THIS MESS

Since so many people ask, this is my secret to sewing:

How he is now ;___; The fur under the eye is a different color (from exposure to sun). kinda worried how that might turn out :C

How he will be soon!!

Ok, serious closeups time. This is for you crafters - I've never come across an eye that had such a huge backing. With a plastic washer that was glued on. And then the post was all glued up too. As for cutting the eye out, I just kinda had to go after it with scissors @_@ Gotta clean it up in there somehow before it goes back in. For some reason that junk won't come out; it's like sewn in there and glued in, or something.

To be continued!

He looks good! You can't even see the entry hole; I only made one incision per arm and leg, and was able to get stuffing all up in there. everywhere.
Only thing is, now the fabric has the creases etched into the direction of the fabric. I tried brushing; nothing. I so wish I didn't get rid of my steam cleaning machine ;; though that thing was useless and a waste of space.

And of course, my camera has gone missing. B( NOT IMPRESSED. And my cellphone, which I took pics with, is left at home. Ah well.

Tyranitar Plush ~ Grail Story

For 4 long years of actively searching for this Tyranitar plush, I'm still in disbelief that he's here with me. I can feel his age and rarity radiating off of him. His presence demands attention. Though strangers see me carry him and shout at us "Reptar!!", as though he's just another stuffed animal, it feels like I'm holding a gem worth $10,000. I can't wait to proudly, and safely, display him in my home. On his own freakin' pedestal. 83

Having trained a Tyranitar in every game that I could (and cursing the high level requirement, only getting to enjoy him for less than 10 levels *punts pupitar*), I was thrilled to find out that a Tyranitar plush existed. But dismayed that there was just one ;_; and that it was one of the most rare Pokemon plush out there. If only I had known about him sooner; I only discovered his existence in 2007.

Aside from saved seller photos, and a stock photo from a promotion page, information was pretty much nonexistent. I couldn't even find out how big he was. I had heard several accounts of people seeing him in the NYC Pokemon Center front window, or at events as a display-only plush.

I remember each and every Tyranitar plush auction that I missed out on, or was outbid. The crushing failure to have enough funds or find an auction in time. Each year, I would give up all over again on ever owning one, and forced myself to forget about the plush. But I'd somehow end up remembering every week or two. I decided to make myself a Tyranitar pokedoll-style plush, in part that I knew I wouldn't get the Big Size version.

Each year in March, for some reason, a burning desire to find this plush welled up inside me. I contacted all owners that I could, seeing if they were ready to part with their plush this year. I researched for hours, seeing if there was any new information or new owners that popped up. For someone who is so active in buying and selling Pokemon, and great at research, it's beyond frustrating not finding something because it's just not there.

Finally, about 2 months ago, I received word that a seller had found a Tyranitar on a flea market and was planning on selling it. I pounced, emailing the seller, and found out that it was the American version (with swapped and upside-down eyes), and some minor damage. I had known for some time that if I were to buy an American Tyranitar, I'd swap the eyes. But damage/dirt? Easy as pie for me! It was ideal; maybe I'd get him for a little bit less. The seller decided to list him on eBay, and I patiently waited for a month or two for him to appear.

Then, he did. I was scared, excited, and sure I wouldn't win him. But I was gonna go down fighting. He had his tush tag only, some signs of age and love, but I was happy that the seller was very honest about his condition.

One week of nail-biting and F5'ing, and it was finally snipe time. The auction was ending at around 12:05 midnight on a weekday, and my dad's internet is spotty. It likes to cut out around midnight, you see. My backup bidder had gone to bed, so I was QUITE nervous. (Thankfully, Gin offered to bid if I poofed). I finally put my highest possible bid I could live with at :25 seconds before he ended. I was queasy, dizzy, and my heart was racing for 10 minutes, sure that he'd go for at least $5,000 by one of my competitors. <strike>silly anxiety.</strike>

GLEE! :D I partied silently on the internet. I thought about calling friends but realized it was midnight. I couldn't sleep for two hours, and kept waking up in excitement. I had estimated that he would arrive in a few days on Monday 7/11 - then received the UPS tracking number, which said that he was in fact shipping from PA, not CA. And arriving on 7/13. Which just happens to be my birthday. If that's not a fated encounter, I don't know what is 83

And now, finally, I PROUDLY present to you, my American Big Size Tyranitar plush!!!

WHAT IS THIS

A BIRTHDAY TYRANITAR

All hail hypnotar.

Epic from all angles.

Size comparison with my 6" Tyranitar pokedoll, and a ruler.
He is so big. SO. BIG. Simple dimensions of inches or feet over the internet seem minute to his prowess. He is not X" long in any one direction; he is big in EVERY dimension.

Longer than he is tall!

Claws are furry! And will be cleaned/restuffed.

Stretching out his cankles~ Ahhh.

Pilling on the felt, and the differences of the shaved and unshaved fur

wut. I'm pretty sure they're not born that way.

I will also document as much information I can about his release、to shed some light on one of these mysterious giants.

I am unsure if the American Tyranitar came with a hang tag; but here is the American tush tag:

Official Japanese name: "Big Size Plush Vicious Tyranitar"
ビックサイズぬいぐるみ
ビシャスのバンギラス

Japanese tag:

Tyranitar was released by TOMY in Japan and the US in 2001, with a very limited quantity in each country. It seems as though the factory made a batch with upside-down and switched eyes, and they were all sold in the US. I have not come across any Japanese Tyranitar plush with switched eyes, or US plush with normal eyes.
They have been reported to have retail prices of between $150 and 28831円.
Several years later in Japan, there was a cellphone promotion, and 10 more Tyranitar plush were released as a contest prize for a limited new member raffle in 2006 for Golden Week.

Japanese version with correct eyes:

American version with switched eyes:

He feels somewhat brittle with age, but the fur is still soft. If you pull on it hard enough, it can come out. The fur is all one smooth color - because the manufacturer used the same fabric, but just shaved a bunch in bulk.
The fur texture type seems to be used in similar Tomy-manufactured plush at the time:

Height: 31 inches
Width: 26.5 inches
Length (nose to tail: 32 inches
Forehead to tail: 39 inches

Regular pile fur:
Head, leg armor, chest, face, head, head spikes, neck, upper back

Short pile fur:
Under-leg, Lower belly, arms, spikes, feet, lower back, tail

Over the next few weeks, he will be undergoing a full-body makeover:

<strike>♥ Pedicure</strike>
<strike>♥ Manicure</strike>
<strike>♥ A good shave</strike>
♥ Wound stitching
<strike>♥ Brain surgery</strike>
♥ Eye removal surgery
<strike>♥ Retinal scraping and re-application</strike> nah it's fine
<strike>♥ Nasal definition</strike>
<strike>♥ Ankle/Kneecap replacement</strike>
<strike>♥ Reverse liposuction</strike>
<strike>♥ Exfoliation</strike>
<strike>♥ A bath</strike>

And that's just off the top of my head. As a plush artist, I am quite picky about the condition of my plush.

He is in need of a name, but for now, he is The King, as he rules over <strike>his kingdom of my bedroom or something</strike> of my collection.

I would love to someday have a hand-made hang tag. Just 'cause I'd love for him to be labeled as Bicious Bangirasu (Vicious Tyranitar) :D

And that is all. I will leave this here to forever document his arrival and transformation.　If you have any new information to share, please let me know!
