Welcome!

Hi, I'm Leon based in the UK. I usually work on a mixture of different things such as web apps, mobile apps, testing, designs, and data analysis.

Some games I play include Valorant, Minecraft, and SCP:SL. I mostly listen to EDM and Pop music from the 2010s like Alan Walker, Calvin Harris, K-391.

I've been getting into electronics, making mobile apps, and watching films as I normally just watch TV-shows instead.

in short

Most of my time goes into testing things, building things, fixing things, and noticing when software makes simple tasks more annoying than they need to be. Like an OTP field for example.

Usually focusing on:

  • Mobile apps
  • Web apps
  • Utility projects
  • Xcode and swift UI
  • Software testing

This website uses no JavaScript?

Yes and no, but it's probably not what you think it's being used for.

The only parts of the website that uses JavaScript is the clock and the Last.FM player. Everything else is pure CSS and HTML.

02 / life

Life (roughly):

Most days are a mix of working, coding, and playing games while listening to music all the time. I work around software, testing code, and building cool projects that help me carry out a niece thing in a quick and efficient manner.

I've also been trying to collect more CD's and DVD's to my home collection as paying for monthly subscriptions is a horrible model. It's going quite well, but I've run out of space in my bedroom for anymore.

Outside of work, I mainly just like to sit down and chill out for a while. Some small side-projects here and there and the occasional half-finished project I never manage to get round to finishing.

Right now I'm working on a Wheel Spinner app that I've mentioned way too many times. I've also worked on a PDF viewer that I hope to create into a full Android app, but at the moment it's still a side project.

03 / projects

My projects:

Wheel Spinner A simple Wheel Spinner app that isn't filled with ads.
Daily Notes A more personal app that I built to quickly keep down tasks I need to do throughout the day.
Minecraft Analytics A simple analytics tool for tracking player activity on Minecraft Servers written in Java, Node.js and React.
04 / notes

Some notes:

Sorry Firefox/Safari users, interpolate-size is still in beta. Sorry :(
001 Software should be simple

A lot of software is built with and without the user in mind. Ads and data collection comes standard nowadays which makes the experience feel less like a tool and more as you're the product. If a business needs to make money, that's fine, but it shouldn't come at the cost of the user.

002 Windows is annoying

I know Windows is slow, bloated, filled with tracking, but I do still use it. Most applications I use are either built purely for Windows or an alternative isn't sufficient on other platforms. I have tried both Linux and macOS, but I find that it's either too open to customization or has to steep of a learning curve to work with.

003 I'm not a designer

While I do like to make designs and want to make everything as good as possible, I'm not a designer. For this website, I've used a custom Discord skin as a design guide as I love the simplicity of it. If you've ever seen my Discord app show up on a screenshare, you'll instantly recognize the idea of the boxed elements I've used.

004 Documentation is not optional

At lost of times I've people mention that code is 'self-explanatory', it's 'too simple', it won't be 'used much'. And they could be right, it could be a small, simple, and easily read piece of work. The issue I find is that this is only true at the time it's written.

Down the line, other people or the person who wrote it has no idea why a particular decision was made, if changing something will break or if somewhere else relies on the piece of software. Documentation is crucial at all times even if you might think today it's not needed. I've learnt the hard way that without documentation, anything can happen including breaking other systems, spending hours of necessary time understanding or breaking something that already works perfectly.

A few minutes of documentation can go a long way even if you don't notice the benefits immediately.
