Hi, Iâm Shiv. Iâve been doing this professionally since 2007 and for the joy of it since the early â90s, using more languages and technologies than I can remember the names of at this point. Iâve put a number of projects here on GitHub from 2020 onwards, and I write about whatever tickles my fancy elsewhere.
The important stuff: Iâm a longtime Emacs user whoâs painstakingly built a development environment on Windows through many experimentsâthough I use Linux tooâand a staunch believer in an accessible, progressively enhanced web. (Donât get me started about displaying static text via JavaScript.) Iâm also obsessive about typography and, shall we say, âparticularâ about my name. I donât use AI.
Recently, Iâve worked with a lot of TypeScript, plain JavaScript, Java, Python, and my current favourite, Rust. Iâve also been exploring DevOps; the more interesting parts were over on GitLab, but I moved most of that to my home infrastructure, built on Proxmox, Nix, Ansible, and Terraform. Newer personal projects tend to go on Codeberg under shivjm.
