Closing a vertical split (or dragging divider down) blanks the remaining pane's content

Issue Description

When running a full-screen TUI application (Claude Code) in a split pane, closing the other split or dragging the split divider downward causes all visible content and scrollback in the remaining pane to disappear. The pane becomes completely blank with only a cursor visible at the bottom-left corner.

This doesn't happen every time — but once it starts happening in a session, it reproduces consistently: splitting down and closing the split will toggle the top pane between normal and blank every time.

Alternative reproduction: Instead of closing the split, drag the split divider downward (making the top pane larger). Content disappears immediately as you drag.

Expected Behavior

The TUI app's content should remain visible after closing the split or resizing.

Actual Behavior

The top pane (with the TUI app) goes completely blank — no content, no scrollback, just a cursor at the bottom-left.

Reproduction Steps

1. Open Ghostty with two tabs (not sure if that's related though)
2. Run a TUI app in one tab (I'm using Claude Code / claude)
3. Split Down (Cmd+D or equivalent)
4. Close the newly created bottom split
