Choose a tag to compare

@btsouth btsouth released this 26 Oct 02:12
15b4d1c

v0.3.1 fixes updating Omarchy now that Arch ships Qt 6.12, along with other fixes shared with Try Omarchy for Windows.

Fixes

  • Fix Omarchy's bar, menus and panels losing their colors after Update > Omarchy brings Qt 6.12 (#64)
  • Fix Update > Omarchy stopping at Omarchy's Snapper migration (#63)
  • Wait for a running package update instead of offering to restart Omarchy when its desktop is slow to respond (#64)
  • Fix large clipboard images stalling on their way into Omarchy (#64)

Dev

  • Port the October Try Omarchy for Windows guest fixes and refresh the guest package lock (#64)

Install: https://tryomarchy.com/linux. Existing installs update through Software or flatpak update. The first start after updating uses your current Omarchy while the new one downloads, and the next start applies it.

Linux guest image v0.3.1

Pre-release

Choose a tag to compare

@btsouth btsouth released this 26 Oct 02:10

Guest image for Try Omarchy for Linux 0.3.1. The Linux app downloads this image on first run and when it updates an existing VM.

The app verifies every file against SHA256SUMS, and pins the SHA256 of SHA256SUMS itself:

34c9596f51a4d666f52d0f5817643382402b262be9c46c48edfd78001df8a3ff

Changes since linux-v0.3.0 (compatibility revision 66):

  • Omarchy's shell keeps its colors with Qt 6.12, including the menu and power panel that show Linux host wording. Runtime 4.0.4-8 carries the fix through later updates.
  • Update > Omarchy no longer stops at Omarchy's Snapper migration; the ext4 guest has no Snapper or Limine.
  • The guest reports a busy desktop while a package update runs, so the launcher does not offer a restart that would interrupt it.
  • Large images from the clipboard arrive without stalling.
  • The factory image grows to 8 GiB, and the package lock is refreshed (Qt 6.12, Quickshell 0.3.2, Linux 7.2.11).

Existing VMs receive these through the compatibility overlay on their next start with the new app.

Try Omarchy for Linux v0.3.0

@btsouth btsouth released this 06 Oct 00:56
0ca73d0

v0.3.0 adds multiple displays, smoother input, sleep handling and a large set of fixes shared with Try Omarchy for Windows.

Features

  • Open Omarchy on two or more displays, each fullscreen on its own monitor, with its own resolution and scale. Choose the display count and monitors in Settings. On Wayland, windowed displays open where your desktop places them (#58, #60)
  • Smoother touchpad scrolling, including small movements and horizontal scrolling, following your desktop's natural scrolling setting (#50)
  • Pause Omarchy when your computer sleeps and resume it on wake, with a manual resume and diagnostics if the pause can't be confirmed (#49, #57)
  • Add USB device passthrough. Pick a device for the next start in Settings, or attach and release devices from the tray while Omarchy runs (#55)
  • Show battery health, design capacity, charge cycles, maker and model inside Omarchy (#52)
  • Detect the host keyboard layout on GNOME, KDE and other desktops when Settings follows the host layout, and say when it can't be detected (#53)
  • Start Try Omarchy when you log in (#51)
  • Follow your system language in the launcher where translations exist. Most Linux-only text is still English for now (#54)
  • Boot your working Omarchy right away, download guest updates in the background, and apply them on the next start (#57)
  • Offer recovery when Omarchy's desktop stops responding (#57)
  • Bring night light into Omarchy, keep notifications private on the lock screen, and allow larger clipboard images such as 8K screenshots (#57)
  • Remember when GPU rendering fails on a machine and start with CPU rendering until the drivers change (#51)
  • Add a force stop when a shutdown hangs (#47)

Fixes

  • Fix the chosen audio output being ignored when the microphone is off (#45)
  • Keep the guest disk readable only by your account (#47)
  • Prevent deleting a VM whose disk is still in use (#47)
  • Fix setup skipping the location choice after approving a host app first (#47)
  • Report QEMU crashes instead of treating them as a normal shutdown (#47)
  • Honor the clipboard sharing setting on every desktop, not just GNOME (#48)
  • Explain that SSH login needs a public key, and warn when none is chosen (#48)
  • Fix the desktop never being marked ready when a custom Omarchy bar is in use (#46)
  • Keep "Managed by the host computer" in the power menu after Omarchy updates (#46)
  • Fix guest updates failing on a file conflict with night light (#57)
  • Correct help text on setup space, host apps and which settings apply right away, and explain launching from Discover right after Flatpak is installed (#48, #59)

Dev

  • Merge the Try Omarchy for Windows v0.10 launcher and guest fixes (#57)
  • Refresh the guest package lock (#61)
  • Run the display placement test in CI (#58)

New permissions: USB devices, sleep coordination with the system, reading the system keyboard layout, and reading KDE's keyboard settings file.

Install: https://tryomarchy.com/linux. Existing installs update through Software or flatpak update. The first start after updating uses your current Omarchy while the new one downloads, and the next start applies it.

Pre-release

Choose a tag to compare

@btsouth btsouth released this 06 Oct 00:55

Guest image for Try Omarchy for Linux 0.3.0. The Linux app downloads this image on first run and when it updates an existing VM.

The app verifies every file against SHA256SUMS, and pins the SHA256 of SHA256SUMS itself:

f101b139d441a2b27b9ac9d32d4e2abc626e11636a755255b344039c384fd80e

Changes since linux-v0.2.0 (compatibility revision 62):

  • Guest fixes shared with Try Omarchy for Windows v0.10: night light inside the VM, private lock screen notifications, compositor health reports for frozen desktop recovery, safer live Omarchy updates, and a fix for a night light file conflict during upgrades.
  • Each display gets its own mode and scale when Omarchy runs on several displays.
  • Desktop readiness works with custom Omarchy bars, and the power menu keeps its Linux wording after Omarchy updates.
  • Refreshed package lock (iniparser 4.3.2, upower 1.91.5).

Existing VMs receive these through the compatibility overlay on their next start with the new app.

@btsouth btsouth released this 04 Oct 18:56
ba61654

Snapshots, disk space reclaim, a path to installed Omarchy, and a newer Omarchy guest.

  • Take snapshots of the VM and roll back to them
  • Give unused disk space back to this computer
  • Bring a trial into an installed Omarchy, including saved sign-ins and password-protected GNOME keyrings
  • Drop files from this computer straight into the Omarchy app under the pointer
  • Open approved apps on this computer from Omarchy
  • Follow this computer's time zone as it changes
  • Choose which monitor the app opens fullscreen on
  • Shared folder, diagnostics and help in the tray menu

The guest image is now linux-v0.2.0. New VMs start on Omarchy 4.0.4. Existing VMs upgrade at their next launch, keep their files and settings, and can move to Omarchy 4.0.4 through Update, Omarchy. If the new image does not reach the desktop, the app rolls back to the previous one.

Install Try Omarchy for Linux. Existing installations can update through Software or flatpak update, keeping their VM and settings.

Guest image for Try Omarchy for Linux 0.2.0. The Linux app downloads this image on first run and when it updates an existing VM.

The app verifies every file against SHA256SUMS, and pins the SHA256 of SHA256SUMS itself:

9018c27c21accd17a1bafbfd31e47f62611411a8f9a9c12fb673399efa87699e

Changes since linux-v0.1.1 (compatibility revision 55):

  • New VMs start on Omarchy 4.0.4 (existing ones update through Update, Omarchy), with the shared guest improvements from Try Omarchy for Windows, including desktop defaults, audio and battery fixes.
  • The clock follows live time-zone changes on the host computer while respecting a time zone chosen inside Omarchy.
  • Settings, file sharing and power menus use Linux host wording.
  • Older Linux disks receive the missing shared guest improvements when they upgrade. Quick-start SSH remains limited to keys, and customized guest settings are preserved.

Built from the unified guest patch series in guest-build, with Linux 7.2.8. Omarchy and the guest packages keep their own licenses; see LICENSE.omarchy, packages.lock.txt and the repository's third-party notices.

Try Omarchy for Linux v0.1.1: Bazzite startup fix

Choose a tag to compare

@btsouth btsouth released this 02 Oct 01:34

Fixes startup on Bazzite and other Fedora Atomic desktops where /home points to /var/home.

Install Try Omarchy for Linux. Existing installations can update through Software or flatpak update, keeping their VM and settings.

This is a focused hotfix. The guest image remains linux-v0.1.1.

Try Omarchy for Linux v0.1.0

Choose a tag to compare

@btsouth btsouth released this 30 Sep 23:39
734d2e1

Try Omarchy for Linux now uses regular version numbers, starting at 0.1.0.

  • The launcher shares the Mac and Windows design, with Settings grouped into General, Devices and Advanced.
  • Add and remove local port forwards while Omarchy runs.
  • Backups keep the window responsive, and slow first-time account setup stays open with useful guidance.
  • Stop during startup shuts Omarchy down cleanly.
  • Setup instructions match the current buttons, and shared folders show their names.

Install Try Omarchy for Linux. Existing installations update through Software or flatpak update, keeping your VM and settings.

The guest image remains linux-v0.1.1. SSH, camera selection and access changes apply after a full shutdown and launch. See the user guide for setup and current limits.

Linux app v0.1.0-preview.5

Pre-release

Choose a tag to compare

@btsouth btsouth released this 30 Sep 01:40
1ea6ffe

Fifth Linux preview. Requires x86_64 Linux, KVM and Flatpak.

  • Switch playback and microphone devices in Settings while Omarchy runs.
  • Use a camera through your desktop's camera permission portal. Capture starts when a guest app opens the camera and stops when it closes it.
  • On Wayland, moving the pointer outside the VM releases the keyboard. Windowed tablet mode no longer confines the pointer, and leaving fullscreen restores that behavior.
  • Desktops without automatic clipboard sharing start without the large clipboard error window.

Install Try Omarchy, or update an existing preview through Software or flatpak update. Your VM and settings stay. The guest remains linux-v0.1.1.

On Ubuntu 24.04, launch from the application menu if Software's Open button fails. This release does not modify AppArmor policy. Camera selection, camera access and microphone access changes require shutting down Omarchy and launching it again.

Headset playback switching and camera frames were checked on physical hardware. Physical microphone switching and broader hardware coverage still need testers. See the hardware checklist.

Built from 7f0acd0, with the same files as the release tag. Signed Flatpak commit: 9affe2ca77f1b52d949845abb2af9d4f61bd398600abfc68c4aa1a7515f4eec4.

@btsouth btsouth released this 29 Sep 18:09

Guest image for Try Omarchy for Linux 0.1.0 preview 4. This is a pre-release: it holds only the Omarchy guest image the Linux app downloads on first run and when it updates an existing VM.

The app verifies every file against SHA256SUMS, and pins the SHA256 of SHA256SUMS itself:

e0c5113c0eb9fa489bae3fc0c0abdf5696c35515f6b80db0660d4d3492d4a694

Changes since linux-v0.1.0 (compatibility revision 44):

  • SSH accepts only keys for the quick-start account (omarchy), since its password is public. New quick-start disks get the rule at setup, and existing ones get it once at their next start. Own-account disks keep password logins.
  • The first-desktop notice says quick-start login instead of trial login and points to passwd.
  • Package lock refreshed: appstream 1.2.1, libpng 1.6.59, librsvg 2.62.4, mkinitcpio 42.1.

Built from the shared guest patches plus the Linux patches in guest-build, on Omarchy 4.0.3 with Linux 7.2.7. Omarchy and the guest packages keep their own licenses; see LICENSE.omarchy, packages.lock.txt and the repository's third-party notices.
