Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection). After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:ProtectedPages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to remove obvious vandalism.
Request addition of protection to a page, or increasing the current protection level
Request removal of protection from a page, or reducing the current protection level
Request a specific edit be made to a protected page
Request the non-urgent protection of multiple pages that do not require immediate administrator attention

Place requests for protection increases at the BOTTOM of this section. If you cannot find your request, check the archive of requests or the page history. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.
Reason: Multi year edit wars removing content related to LGBT themes, often particularly targeting content discussing how it may have not always been stigmatized by discussing the dates of sources and the cultural shifts that occurred during those dates. The complaints noted target the sexuality of one of the source authors and act like the existence of information indicating a potentially nuanced evolution of the term and how it was received instead of only recounting information from later sources that are homophobic means "[the] entire wiki page seems to insinuate that homosexuality was considered normal in the "viking" age". The negative information is always presented alongside the positive, yet only the positive information is targeted. This editing problem is clearly rooted in homophobia. Declined I wouldn't say this is a content dispute, but it's close to one, and there is very little recent disruption on the article. Note that the edit summary here has overtones of WP:OWN. Also the assessment of the editing problem here is an aspersion - it may well be right, but without evidence, it's not acceptable to speculate on the motivations of other editors in such a manner. Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – This talk page gets a few coherent edit requests (most recently , ; both of which were declined) but 95% of non-autoconfirmed users are unconstructive, with an average rate of one distinct disruptive user every two days. Current requests for reduction in protection level
Reason: This former article page was unilaterally moved without discussion to Rum Arabs by a now double-blocked editor (AN/I result). There was a histmerge that followed, which I assume is the reason for the protection. Please unprotect Antiochian Greek Christians so the page can be returned to that name. It's been a few years since I've done anything here and I guess I figured eleven years was long enough that the discussion wouldn't be a super big deal. My mistake on that. - There is. Boldfaced, italicized, in large type, and hilit with yellow background. About the only thing that's missing is <blink>. It's also in the edit notice. I'll grant the former isn't shown on the WP:RFPP transclusion, so is easily missible if you edit-section instead of clicking the 'request unprotection' link. Don't have my tablet handy to see how mobile mode borks up the edit notice, or whether it helpfully omits the gigantic warnings in general. —Cryptic 20:44, 12 September 2026 (UTC)
- I've downgraded to extendedconfirmed for the time being, which should be sufficient for immediate purposes. Still kind of appalled on multiple levels by that rfd result (hence my taking advantage of related redirect Altynbekova Sabina to bring it back there in hope of some sanity). The most recent attempt in draft managed to avoid nearly all of the old article's problems, which is heartening, though it was a long ways from mainspaceable for completely different reasons. —Cryptic 02:40, 13 September 2026 (UTC)

- I don't edit on the Arab-Israeli conflict (it's too controversial and it's not my area of expertise anyways), but I'm replying anyways to let you know that I replaced the nonexistent {{Edit:COI}} template with {{Edit COI}}, which is what you'd actually use if you wanted to make an edit request for something you have a conflict of interest with.
