Let’s Reclaim
The Open Web

We’re creating open tools that give everyone a voice - all 8 billion of us.

Our planet is more connected than ever. But connecting online is only half of the challenge. We must bring people together into new spaces that balance freedom of expression with civil discourse, that respect personal freedom, autonomy, and privacy. We must reclaim that power from the mega-platforms that profit by controlling access to the sum of human knowledge.

The Emissary Foundation is building open tools and technologies to give every one of the 8 billion people on this planet a voice in our future.

Our Vision for a Better Internet:
No ads. No tracking. No algorithms.

The Emissary Foundation is re-building social networks, born on the open web, and dedicated to the original promise of the Internet. Your voice, your identity, and your online reputation should belong to you, not a datacenter.

We can build social networks without surveillance.

We can fund social media without intrusive adware.

We can grow communities without rage-bait algorithms.

What is the Fediverse?

Imagine an open society, where each person owns their digital identity, relationships, and personal history. A place where you can join a small community server, or easily start one just for yourself. Where the big platforms don’t choose what you see or what you say.

Every community is connected (“federated”) with a common language so that posts on one flow to all the others. So you can be a part of a global network, or cut through the noise and focus on a small circle of trusted friends. That choice is always in your hands.

That’s the Fediverse.

Today, it comprises millions of people around the world. Sharing stories, songs, artwork, and all the things that make humans.. human.

The Emissary Foundation is working tirelessly to bring this vision to everyone. We’re building software for the Fediverse, contributing to standards, and reaching out to bring new communities onto the network.
