Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises Moosa Zameer has resigned today.
Zameer's letter sent to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu cites health reasons as a cause for resignation.
He has reportedly undergone a key surgery in Singapore in December last year.
In this administration, Zameer initially served as Minister of Foreign Affairs. He was later appointed as Finance Minister on September 30, 2024.
Public Enterprises was then added to the Finance Ministry's mandate during a cabinet reshuffle in April this year. Following the new appointments to the cabinet, Zameer became one of the most senior ministers. As such, he was selected as Chair of the cabinet committee on mitigating the impacts of the Middle East war, as well as serving as the President of the Local Government Authority.
While Zameer has resigned today, Maldives' credit rating was raised by Fitch Ratings last week. Maldives has also successfully repaid the USD 500 million sovereign sukuk due in April.
