I fully accept election results: President

Provisional results indicate that a majority of voters opposed holding presidential and parliamentary elections simultaneously. Of more than 12,000 votes counted so far, 73 percent were against conducting the two elections on the same day.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said he accepts the results of the three elections held on Saturday, which saw a setback for the ruling PNC.

In a post on X, the President said: “I respectfully accept the results of today’s local council and women’s development committee elections and referendum polls.”

He also congratulated those who secured victory.

“I assure the beloved Maldivian citizens that, with God’s grace, I will continue working to address and correct the issues within the government, in line with the sentiments of the people,” he wrote.

The opposition Maldivian Democratic Party has also secured a second term in mayoral positions across five cities, including Male'.
