It’s been raining all day here in Orlando.
The lights have been off and on, in my mind. I have been reading a “100 Years of Lynching” by Ralph Ginzburg. It’s a demanding text as in the typical story:
a black man…a Negro is accussed of raping–insulting–or looking at a white woman. The sheriff brings him to the jailhouse, the white men in the town (numbers from 200-5000+) get angry, break into the jail–sometimes the sheriff fights them off or he’s overpowered or in some cases he just gives up the suspect (a lot of it was pre-arranged).
The black man (or even an uncle, father, wife of the alleged perpetrator or a stranger, the wrong person) is then made to face his victim that he outraged or is brought back to the place where the alleged crime occured.( Read more...Collapse )
