Ichiro had been sitting in the room at Thomas’ that was habitually his, when he first heard the thumps. They were irregular in origin, and seemed to be coming from the hallway. At first, he attempted to ignore them but as he realised they were progressing steadily in the direction of his room, in the end he put aside his book and went to investigate.

Thomas was making his way down the hallway, the thumps were him colliding with various open doors, the side of the wall, and the various hall furnishings. The reason for this became clear as he squinted at Ichiro and made a vague guess. “Dennis?”

“Roy,” the Japanese man corrected him with a smirk.

“Ah, Roy. You haven’t seen my glasses anywhere, old sport?”

“I’m afraid not.”

“Must have left them in my room,” Thomas said cheerily. “I’ve no idea how I made it this far without them.” With another crash he continued down the hall.

Ichiro shook his head at him, and returned to his room. As he picked up his book, a thought occurred to him. “That’s not the direction of his room -- that’s the direction of the stairs --”

Locked in the bathroom, Edward ignored the crashes from upstairs -- really, Thomas and Masuta were worse than Alice when it came to making noise. Talk about inconsiderate! -- and finished tying his hair back. He picked up the glasses almost hesitantly. This was a stupid idea, he knew that. All the same . . . he hadn’t quite been able to put it out of his mind. Taking a deep breath, and ignoring the way his stomach churned, Edward hesitantly put the glasses on.

His eyes swam. Everything blurred -- no wonder Hughes was never without them, if his vision was this bad. Edward squinted at his reflection, but the face the mirror reflected back at him didn’t look like much of anything.

He pulled the glasses down a bit, letting them rest on the end of his nose. That was better, although they didn’t fit right but then he didn’t intend to keep them long. He looked . . . he looked like himself, trying on glasses. Edward scowled at his reflection -- no that was all wrong. Hoenheim never looked like that -- he tried a tentative smile and for a moment saw something in his face -- and it was gone as he tried to look more closely.

Edward sighed, taking the glasses off, and slid down to sit on the bathroom floor. He turned the glasses over slowly in his hand. It was stupid, he knew that. But it didn’t stop him from wanting to see his Father again, just once more --

A particularly loud crash sounded, and Edward rolled his eyes. He’d better go and tell Masuta and Thomas to stop fooling around. Alice might be trying to sleep or something. Tucking the glasses in his pocket, he left the room, not glancing back at his reflection once.
