Meet the Members Behind the Camera

Since 2002, the Wedding Photojournalist Association has connected couples with creative wedding photographers known for authentic moments, genuine emotion and visual storytelling. WPJA members bring their own personalities and photographic styles to weddings of every scale, from intimate celebrations and elopements to larger wedding days, as well as engagement sessions, creative portraits and artistic detail photography.

A documentary wedding photographer knows when to move closer, when to work quietly in the background and when an important moment is beginning to unfold. The goal is not to turn your wedding into a photo shoot, but to create a meaningful photographic story while you experience the day.

Long before wedding-day content became part of the conversation, WPJA photographers were documenting celebrations as they naturally unfolded. They anticipate real moments, genuine emotions and fleeting interactions, then preserve them with the timing, composition and craft of professional photography.

Today's couples have more ways than ever to capture and share their wedding. We think that's a good thing. But there is a difference between recording what happened and creating a lasting visual story of what it felt like to be there.

The moments couldn't be repeated. The photographs don't need to be explained.

Since 2002, WPJA has recognized photographers who find exceptional images within real wedding-day events, from major moments to fleeting reactions and stories that might otherwise go unnoticed.

An important part of that tradition is who evaluates the work. WPJA contests are judged by respected photojournalists, picture editors and visual professionals. WPJA judges have been recognized by their industry peers, including for work as staff photojournalists, picture editors and newsroom mentors at leading publications and journalism organizations.

That independent judging has been central to WPJA awards from the beginning, recognizing photographs for timing, composition, emotion and storytelling rather than popularity.
