Breakthrough microchip advances next-generation 6G communications

Researchers at Tyndall National Institute have helped develop a breakthrough microchip designed to enable future 6G and satellite communications. International research team combines world-leading expertise in semiconductor and wireless technologies.

EU Presidency event at UCC explores SDGs and Global Challenges

Climate change, migration and the Sustainable Development Goals were the focus of a major EU Presidency associated event at University College Cork.

UCC researchers have developed Ireland’s first national Coastal Exposure Index, pinpointing where communities, cultural heritage and other coastal assets face the greatest exposure. Mayo has the largest stretch of coastline classified as “Very High Exposure”, at 414.5 km. Pictured above: Achill Island, Co. Mayo.

First national map reveals where Ireland’s coast is most exposed to erosion and flooding

New research provides the first national-scale picture of coastal exposure to climate hazards around Ireland. The study identifies coastal communities and heritage sites along Ireland’s most exposed stretches of coastline. Findings show that 38% of Ireland’s coastline benefits from potential exposure reduction provided by coastal habitats.
